A different perspective on breakfast
This is the shopping list that my flatmate Luki wrote on a post-it yesterday, which looks much the same as the lists of many other millenials. It took him three minutes to walk to the nearest shop, where he filled his basket, went through the self-checkout and then headed back home. This morning, he sprinkled a few nuts and berries on top of his healthy instagrammable porridge, and it was ready for him to eat for breakfast. Easy! ...

OldSchool: distance learning platform for senior citizens
From lockdown to action It all started back in mid-March with the frustration of a gerontopsychologist who took the Covid-19 crisis pretty personally. Burcu, an aging researcher who focuses on the understanding and promotion of healthy aging, felt a strong sense of responsibility to support the major risk group (65+) and decided she had to do something against the crisis. That’s when she ran into the ad of the Versus Virus Hackathon . She had never...

Eggplant-Tomato Salad w/vegan dressing
For me eggplants and herbs are the epitome of summer. I know we can actually get everything during winter time. But the taste of a sun ripped tomato does make the difference. As well as that most of the vegetables are Swiss ones now. I like. Combining different flavours makes it even better. Be brave, try various combinations. Since I like a lot of herbs, I mostly use more than one. Adding fruit and nuts to your salad does top it off. Instead of Mayo I used...

Chez Oskar
Welcome to the hood Oskar. Finally a place where I can grab lunch and coffee when I'm done at the yoga studio next door! Chez Oskar is a brilliant new addition to Altstetten. They just oppened four weeks ago, for now it's more of a grab and go place, because the construction work of the Labitzke Areal is still going on, but outside tables are definitely planed as soon as possible. The oskar team is serving delicious (vegan) salad bowls with a...

Gluten free summer noodle salad
I'm so much into salads, especially during the hot summer months. And the best thing about it: you can make salads out of pretty much everything ;) Lately I made a "fridge clean out" variation with my favorite gluten free bean noodles (made out of edamame, the noodles are very low in fat and rich in proteins). I combined the noodles with farm fresh champignons (from my auntie), fresh spring potatoes (finally there are Swiss ones) and a not so...

Mocha smoothie bowl
Oh my dear coffee, how much I need you at the moment! But since I try to get myself ready while my husband is still at home, there's sometimes no time to prepare a cup of coffee. So here's my solution for a 2 in 1 breakfast and coffee meal. I did just throw my portion of caffeine inside my smoothie bowl. The best thing about it? You can easily prepare it the night before and freeze it. It's done in 10 minutes and tastes super super delicious! ...

A short detour from the kitchen III
It is fun to cook good food and to eat that which you have cooked. Here the daunting part comes afterwards: the piles of dishes and utensils to be washed. To avoid the chore of washing up, one could go eat out. Here the challenge starts before the meal, the question is where to eat, because we are not going out to eat just any meal, we want a good tasty meal with nice service. This little obstacle can be removed by trusting the recommendations of your...

Dear Baroness, Can women and men be friends?
Dear Baroness, Do you think men and women can be friends? Do you think that if a woman is out for an evening, having a good time and gets talking to a group of men, that she should assume they want only one thing from her? Do you think she is leading them on if she accepts their invitation to join their party? I know how I feel about the subject, but others disagree with me and I want to hear what you have to say about the matter. ...
