With all the hot weather we’ve been having it’s great to get out on the water and enjoy the lake. Temperatures are often noticeable lower when you leave the shore so it provides some respite from the sweltering heat of the city. But boating is just for rich folks? Well, kind off. I’ve come up with a few ways to get out on the lake.
Stay fit, enjoy the sunshine and, if you get too hot, fall in. Stand up paddling is a fantastic way to enjoy the lake. I have found that relaxing, releasing tension and keeping your head up makes it easer to enjoy an early bath. Very zen but make sure you wear sunscreen. A lot of sunscreen. Check the map for some great rental locations.
A rubber boat is a great way to enjoy the lake or the river, especially if you get tired of the cacophony of sounds from about a million boom boxes by the lake shore. You can actually buy them new for under 70 Chf but be aware that there is a few regulations attached to their use. Leave the 12 pack of beer at home and remember the sunscreen.
Alternatively you can rent larger boats with a captain to salute. This is going to cost you more money and when i say more i mean a lot more. But if you can get a few friends together for the ride, although it is not cheap, it is possible.
There is a whole armada of boats that criss cross the lake from Zürichsee Schiffahrt and Gastro and stop at all the towns along the lake. I love taking these boats as they offer a unique view, there is a cooling breeze and, even better, food and drinks. Take the boat to Horgen, Erlenbach, Stäfä or even as far as the tiny island of Ufnau.
Well, it's that time of year when we start pulling out our cosy sweaters and cardigans, praying that the moths didn't get to them. Maybe you have a favorite, but want to look for some other ones, or maybe you wore your favorite one so many
