The first vote on the ballot focuses on the climate protection and binds the city and municipalities into limiting climate change and striving towards «Net Zero» emissions. All the main parties are in favour with the exception of the SVP and the ultra right EDU.
The Teen Vote
The second vote seeks to ratify the reduction in voting age from 18 to 16 years in municipal and cantonal elections. The idea is to engage younger people in politics but, as younger people tend to be more environment conscious and left leaning the SVP, FDU and EDU all object.
Want To Become Swiss?
The third vote ratifies the requirements of the naturalisation process in Canton Zurich and ensures that these processes remain uniform across the canton. These matters are democratic, according to the cantonal constitution, so must be put to the people.
Time With The Kid.
The final vote is a people’s initiative and, like most people’s initiatives looks doomed to fail due to a lack of support in the cantonal council. The initiative proposes to increase maternity leave from 4 to 18 weeks and increase paternity leave from 2 to 18 weeks.
