You might notice a touch more advertising in this weeks newsletter. Well... you may remember that a knight in shining armour saved the English Ron newsletter so it only seems right that i return the favour somehow. I was going to offer a prize to the Ronster who worked out who the Swiss Sir Lancelot was to my Guinevere but i am pretty sure everyone will be able to work it out.In the meantime enjoy the weekend and...Give my love to the city
Bah humbug! Or Maybe less bah humbug and more bar humbug. Any hoo, if you find it hard to get into the festive mood then perhaps let
Rudolph’s Holy Moly restore your Christmas spirit.
Rudolph’s Holy Moly are opening this Thursday with plenty of warm and spicy drinks, Christmas music and, (hopefully,) a drunken snog under the mistletoe. p.s. I know it's super early for Christmas but i like to get some practice in.
Thursday 5pm, Rudolph’s Holy Moly, Dufourstrasse 43, 8008
If you have never tried the Graubunden speciality
«Capuns» then you have a great opportunity this week as a new pop-up is going to be specialising in them. Running from Thursday until the 8th of December
Chesa Capuns, (i suggested Al Capuns as a name but no one else found it funny,) will offer a three or five course menu with a choice of veggie, classic or truffle capuns. If you haven’t tried them then give them a try. I love ‘em.
Thursday 6pm, Chesa Capuns, Eibenstrasse 9, 8055
What with Gerolds Garten, Hive, Supermarket and Urban Surf the «Hardbrucke ‘hood» has become a pretty lively part of town. Well it’s about to get livelier with this weeks opening of
Zentralwäscherei, a new collection of spaces for art, music, gastronomy and art. Their
grand opening is taking place this Thursday to Saturday with workshops, music, drinking and dancing. And as inclusiveness is one of their «raison d’êtres» the website, (which is bonkers but fun,) is in English.
Thurs & Fri 6pm, Sat 1pm, Zentralwascherei, Neue Hard 12, 8005
If you’re a stylish type of character with excellent taste, (I know you are, you’re reading this,) then check out the
Blickfang design exhibition this weekend which showcases fantastic design in the fields of…well everything. Furniture, clothes, jewellery… you name it, they’ve got it.
Fri 2pm, Sat & Sun 11am, Blickfang, Kongresshaus, Claridenstrasse 5, 8002
If you are into surfing and equality between the sexes (and i love the first and fervently believe in the second,) then head down to the
Riff Raff cinema this Wednesday as, as part of
Surf Film Nacht Zurich, they are showing the film
«Girls Can’t Surf» which follows a group of female surfers in the 1980’s as they struggle to make inroads in a male dominated sport.
SPOILER ALERT: I think they can!
Wed 9pm, Riff Raff, Neugasse 57, 8005

Vegan fondue doesn't have it easy in Switzerland as we live in a country that is proud of it’s melted cheese traditions and fondue is as much a part of winter life as Christmas and Skiing. But the next time you have a fondue you no longer need to exclude your vegan friends as there are now some very good vegan fondues on the market. I recently tried three offerings from
New Roots and i have to say i was pleasantly surprised. The nut version is just as creamy and comforting as a traditional Moitié Moitié and doesn't throw me into a food coma. And also with the added bonus that your house doesn't smell like cheese's armpit afterwards. But that’s not all. Wan’t to make you own vegan fondue? Then
try this recipe, (It’s in German unsurprisingly,) from
Eat-This.org which is made from cashews. No everyone can get involved with fondue. Yay!
