So…the good folks of Zurich go to the polls this Sunday. Will we see shiny new stadiums and cycle lanes? Fighter jets and overjoyed hunters? Whatever the result, at least all of the people had their say...well the ones that are eligible...and could be bothered.

In other news, it’s only taken the best part of year but at least one planned event is going ahead as scheduled. See if you can guess which one it is. Have great weekend, enjoy what’s happening in town and…

Is it already the end of September? Then that must mean the start of the 16th Zurich film festival. As you can probably imagine, the stars in attendance are significantly reduced but there will still be Juliette Binoche and the wonderful Olivia Colman (joining via streaming and who i loved in the series Broadchurch.) There is a fantastic program and i have to admit i couldn't watch the trailer for «Whose Streets» without sheding a tear. So glad this great festival is able to go ahead...

Yesh. No it’s not Sean Connery saying «yes» but a recording artist who has travelled from Tibet to Zurich and onto New York and back again. Speaking of annual events it is time for Open House Zurich which gives us all a unique opportunity to experience not only the outside of Zurich’s architecture but what is normally hidden behind closed doors. There are plenty of activities including walks and cycle trips and an awesome number of locations. My tip would be to check out Augusto Giacomettis’ «Blüemlihalle». It looks out of this world.

Fan of fashion and design? Then look no further as the local design collective Die Macherei are joining up with their new neighbours, tattoo artists Sang Bleu, to celebrate their reopening at a new location in Europaallee. But it won’t just be beautiful things you can look at. Food is provided by Hermanos Tacos and there will be drinks and DJ’s to keep you entertained.

It has not just been the music festivals that have been victims of the Covid crisis. Spare a thought for beer festivals. This year the Zurich Craft Beer Festival was supposed to take place in April but, having moved the date to September, the uncertainty forced them to cancel until next year. Drat.

But organisers Probier, (geddit??? Probier means to try in German,) have come up with a novel way moving the festival online. Purchase the beer, either online or from Kaiser Franz and sample them whilst you are talked through the flavours online. A great solution until next years festival.

Timing is everything and, let’s face it, vegan restaurant Fedt didn’t have the best luck with it. They opened around two weeks before the national lockdown in March, (which i wrote about here,) but now they are having a second bite of the cherry. The cuisine takes its inspiration from Scandinavia and is vegan or vegetarian so good for the planet as well. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Vær så god!
