Zurich (EN) : Zurich 09.07.2020: Selfies, Cinemas & Soba

Good Morning Ronster

Schools out on Friday but, unlike normal, i think a fair few people will remain in the city over the summer period. If you are staying in town over the holidays i am going to come up with some interesting places to visit over the next few weeks.

Once again i am super excited to organising my Balance Day which will take place on the 15th of November. If you think you can bring balance to the city through fitness, meditation, yoga, nutritional advice or anything else you can think of please get in touch. You can find further info at www.balanceday.net. I’m already looking forward to returning to equilibrium. Have a great weekend and…

Give my love to the city

Good to know: Selfie Land

It’s funny to think that as little as twenty years ago the word «selfie,» did not exist. Cut to 2020 and there is even a selfie hotel, right here in Zurich. 25 Hours Hotel at the corner of Langstrasse and Lagerstrasse has opened and dressed up its rooms for selfie taking, boomerangs and other selfie inspired fun from now until the 22nd of August.

Thurs 12pm - 10pm, 25 Hours Hotel, Langstrasse 150, 8004

Cinema: Anyone For Xenix?

What could be better than watching a film, enveloped by the inky darkness of a warm summer night? Nothing, right? Well Kino Xenix are beginning their openair cinema season, right in the heart of the city and are showing some classic films including personal favourites, Get Carter and The Big Lebowski. Check their website for timings and program.

Shopping tip: You Say Goodbye, I Say Velo

I’m gonna say it over and over and over. Get a bike. Zurich (in spite of what the locals may tell you,) is a great place for cycling, certainly compared to London or Paris. This weekend yet another Velobörse takes place at Helvetiaplatz. A great place to pick up a new bike.

Exhibition: Black Art Matters

After the violence and protests in the US photoSchweiz has decided to do their bit to raise awareness of racial issues with their, Black Art Matters exhibition. From the 11th July until 23rd August the work of 70 renowned black photographers will be presented at the MAAG Halle. The above picture is from Alexis Hunley and will be featured in the exhibition. Powerful stuff.

Cinema: Bloom-ing Heck

Open air cinemas are like buses. You wait all year for one then three turn up at the same time. On Wednesday it is the turn of the Bloom cinema at Landesmuseum to…er…i guess open its doors for you. There is a great and varied program to enjoy but if you want a film which deals with a bit of local history check out Platzspitzbaby which is going to be shown with English subtitles.

15th July - 26th Aug, Landesmuseum, Museumstrasse 2, 8021

Eating: Soba As A Judge

For the Japanese food fans out there, a great little takeaway has popped up at Goldbrunnenplatz. Yokita has a small takeaway menu but it was so good that i had to go back a second time. I tried the Donburi, the Yakisoba and, well, pretty much the whole menu. What i can recommend it the Bento boxes which i tried twice and found to be different yet delicious each time. A great place if you want a picnic lunch or can’t be bothered to cook after a long day.

Out Of Town: Murg Massala

School’s out but the normal change from bustling metropolis to ghost town is unlikely to happen this summer. If you are staying in town there are plenty of places to visit for the day if you fancy getting out of Dodge. Last weekend i hiked up to the Murgsee and enjoyed the stunning scenery in that part of the world. Hit the link to see some pictures and for more info...
