Zurich (EN) : Zurich 30.09.2021: Museums, Georgia & Fat Boy Slim

Good Morning Ronster

I am delighted that Switzerland overwhelmingly supported legalising same sex marriages in Sundays referendum with 65% of voters supporting the proposal. Slightly depressingly it does mean that 35% still didn’t support it but you can’t have everything i suppose.

It’s starting to feel a lot like Autumn at the moment and this year i have been savouring the warm afternoons and crisp mornings. As October comes around we have the ski season to look forward to and of course, Christmas is not far away.

Have a great weekend and...

Give my love to the city

Exhibition: Late Night At The Museum

The Landesmuseum. What a wonderful place it is but, unless you take a day off, it closes too early to visit. Well not tonight as the Landesmuseum is open late with it’s er… Landesmuseum Late event. Tours, exhibitions, performances and live music are all on the agenda but with the added bonus of having a few drinky-poos.

Comedy: Yet More Comedy

Don’t fancy visiting a museum? Well, there is also so great comedy this Thursday at the Comedy Haus near to Albisriederplatz. This week the headline act is Australian comic Jono Duffy plus a whole slew of other locally based (but importantly,) English speaking comedians.

Audiolicious: Praise Him Like We Should

Here’s an exciting one. Fat Boy Slim is going to be DJ-ing at the Kaufleuten this Saturday. That’s right folks. Not a fat boy slim! The Fat Boy Slim. Fat Boy Slim, (real name Norman Cook,) has had a long and distinguished career playing bass with The Housemartins but having mega hits with tunes such as «Praise You». In fact he even managed to persuade Christopher Walken to dance in one of his videos. Don’t believe me? Click the link to check it out.

Exhibition: A Sneaky Peek Inside

Have you ever looked at a building and though, «I wonder what’s behind those doors?» Well, wonder no more as Open Haus Zurich have arranged for us mere mortals to take a sneaky peek at the inside of some of Zurich’s most interesting buildings. There is over 120 locations to visit but i have to admit, i am looking forward to visiting the Rote Turm that overlooks the Limmat. I've always wondered what's up there.

Festival: Georgia On My Mind

I have to admit that i do not know much about Georgia. I mean i know where it is and i know the capital is Tbilisi. But this weekend offers a great opportunity to get better acquainted with the start of the Georgian Culture Festival which begins on the 2nd of October. Now for those that don’t speak German (or Georgian,) some events are probably not worth visiting but architecture, art and music transcend boundaries don’t they? Let’s build some bridges between Zurich and Tbilisi.

Concert: Back To The Roaring 20s

Wednesday is often a quiet night in Zurich and without the touring international acts it has become even more so. But this week local band «The Sheiks» are performing at the «Musigznacht» at GZ Riesbach over on the posh side of the lake. Their style is retro Swing à la roaring twenties… which makes sense as, i suppose, we’re in the roaring 20’s.

Good to know: Jazz Monkey

If you haven’t visited the Thai restaurant Blue Monkey in the Niederdorf then they are giving you three extra reasons to take a trip over there. Starting next Thursday the restaurant will be hosting «Blue Monkey Jazz,» with internationally renowned German drummer Wolfgang Hafner appearing on their first show on the 7th of October. This is followed by shows on 21st October and 21st of November. A fantastic new spot for some great food and great music.

Good to know: Sharing Is Caring

Shared living is all the rage and in a country where making friends is difficult and is renowned for it’s reserved population, it’s a great way of developing relationships and a sense of community. At the forefront of this concept is tomodomo.ch and on Friday they open a new property right next to the «Niederdörfli» at Central. It’s a great idea if you, (or friends,) need a place to stay for short to medium term in the city.

Opening Friday, Leonhardstrasse 1, 8001
