It’s December already and we only have to lurch through another twenty eight days of an unforgettable 2020. Hooray.

The recent snow has brought a Christmassy feeling to the beginning of Advent so enjoy a Glühwein for me, get those Secret Santa presents bought and….

The battle for human rights has been ongoing since the invention of…well…humans. But the battle is far from over and, this weekend, Kosmos are hosting the sixth Human Rights Film Festival which shines a light on some of the struggles taking place across the globe with discussions taking place after the films.

Talking of film festivals, this years Gay and Lesbian film festival, Pink Apple, began earlier in the week. Of course, Covid has meant that the festival has gone online but it does mean you can enjoy the films, discussions and lectures from the comfort of your own home. Although the festival started on Tuesday it runs until the 15th so there still plenty of films to see and opportunities to get involved.

Advent is upon us but with all the clubs closed and events cancelled spare a thought for the poor DJ’s who are out of work. Fortunately you can enjoy a good meal, listed to some great DJ’s and help them out. Coming Soon are providing the venue for Juli Lees & Nici Faerbers Adventskalendar which offers a 5 course meal with the soundtrack provided by some great Zurich DJ’s.

If it's too chilly outside and you would prefer a taste of Africa then Moods are presenting JMO, a trio which fuses jazz and world music and features Moussa Cissokho on vocals and the wonderful west African instrument, the Kora. What is weight? What is mass? They are, in fact, two very different things and Tanzhaus Zurich is attempting to question the oversimplification of the fat body and weight with «Avoirdupois», a performance that blends movement and text featuring U.S. singer, mother, activist and performance artist Brandy Butler.

I love chocolate. I also love sake. So it makes perfect sense to bring these two things together doesn’t it? Fortunately MAME, in conjunction with The Small Batch Project and Discover Sake, are doing just that, introducing you to craft chocolate and the delicious flavour of Japan. Oh yeah, it’s in English too so you can leave the Japanese phrase book at home.

British cuisine gets a terrible rap but one of the things that i really do enjoy is a good old British pie. But whilst pies are things of beauty but are a rare commodity in these parts. Or are they? On my Saturday walk i popped into the market at Im Viadukt and was tempted by the wares of The Pie Shop which resides there. If you are a Brit that misses a good pie or you just want to try something new then i can recommend giving their handmade pies a try.
