Zurich (EN) : Zurich, 19.5.2011: Summer is here, Guy Ritchie & the winner is….

Dear friends

Thank you for all the congratulations I received for my birthday. Unfortunately only one can win and Fortuna was with Nadja from Bern. Together with her boyfriend she’ll visit me in New York, where I show them some of my favourite spots. So I hope I’ll receive some more hearts from them in the future. A big thank you also goes to CheapTickets.ch who sponsored the flight.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Flying high

From the heady heights of winning the Swiss Music Awards last year and supporting Coldplay at Stade de Suisse, now Pegasus come back to play directly to the people at Longstreet Bar tonight. The band from Biel have a strong commercial sound and, if I know my Swiss radio djs, will be all over the airwaves this summer. With a new album out later this year, this might be the last chance to see them in such an intimate venue. If you need further encouragement, entry to the gig is free.
Thursday 9.30 pm, Longstreet Bar

Select your winner

ewz.selection is a photography exhibition, showing works by established photographers as well as upcoming talents. The exhibition starts today and goes on until 29 May. At the final party, one photographer will receive the Ron Orp’s Mail community award, so cast your vote for your favourite before it is too late!  Here my highlights of the exhibition. Friday: Opening and award night. Sunday: The impossible project - is about a Polaroid lover who bought one of the companies in the east (after Polaroid went bust) and rebuilt it. He’ll be there to talk about it all. Wednesday: Open Days -agencies and photographers open their doors for you. Here you’ll find an overview of the addresses.

Bad boys

Alright, listen up all you birds and geezers: London town may be a few hundred kilometres away but Xenix have shipped in a little package of the good stuff for those of you missing the rough and tumble. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is showing on Friday and if you ever wondered what life as slightly useless but very funny London hoodlums would be like you need to see this film. Imagine Tarantino sipping a mug of tea with a shotgun over his shoulder and you’ll get a feel for the film. A must-see classic!
Friday 11.15 pm, Xenix

Dancing the nightshift

With all the electro sounds bouncing around Zurich, you may be missing some good four-to-the-floor indie rock. Well, the guys at indie.ch can help you out. After their relaunch at the end of last year, they now have a new party night at Exil call Nachtschicht (Nightshift). To kick things off they have a German band playing live called Abby, as well as selection of djs to fulfil all your indie needs. Some of the bands they have booked to play in the future will also be worth checking out.
Friday 9 pm, Exil

Summer days, summer nights

Located at their hq in Forchstrasse, you can enjoy their terrace and wipeout bar with beers and grill as well as an unplugged concert and djs playing all day. With an after bbq apero at Fiasko and after bbq party at Zukunft, you can really make this the first endless summer day of the season.

Summer is here

Summer has arrived when the pool areas around the lake and the Limmat open. Since the beginning of May, Primitivo at the Obere Letten is ready for guests, since last week, you can enjoy Badi Enge again and on Monday it’s time for Rimini. Finally! The party combines celebrating the start of a new season with the Monday market as well as with a fashion show featuring several Swiss designers.  A toast to summer! But I have to add – if it rains, the event will be postponed by one week.

Monday 5 pm, Rimini

Kind of jazz

If you like jazz, then Kaufleuten Hof is your place to be. Each Tuesday from now on, there will be a concert. At the end you vote for the band’s performance and at the end of the series, a winner will be selected. That band receives the entrance money of all concerts combined. To start is Radar Suzuki, followed by Claude Diallo Situation next week.
Tuesday 8 pm, Kaufleuten Hof

Electro Acoustic

Usually, electronic music is the result of computers and machines. However, the trio called The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble has a very different approach to this genre. They use acoustic instruments, but the outcome sounds rather electronic, and their melodies are a mix of jazz, electronica and classical music. Very unusual.
