THE BEST PLAN IS NO PLAN
Shout it out like a bird set free – Sia When we’re young, society teaches us to map out the footprints of our life from A to Z, and as it goes: finish your education, get that college degree, fight for that job, grab that promotion, find your better half, make little mini-me’s, mortgage and buy that dream house, how’s your pension looking like? Soon you fast-forward 50 years and look back into your settled comfort zone. The list is...

Dear Baroness, I think I'm a bit high maintenance, when should I tell my date my issues?
Dear Baroness, I have a kind of boring yet important-to-me question. I have lots of dietary restrictions/allergies and a few other personal issues you might consider weird and am single. I want to go on dates but don’t want to bore a potential date with all my body’s workings too soon, you know? What shall I tell them and when? Signed, No meat, no dairy, no garlic, no sugar, no fun. Darling boring (no fun), ...

Dear Baroness, Do I drink too much? . . . And where have you been?!!
Dear Baroness, I have a very serious question for you: Do you think I should stop drinking? I mean not altogether or anything but maybe for a while? Or maybe just drink less? I mean I know you don’t know me, but I just think it might be time. I was reflecting upon this past year and how shitty it’s been, and other than the obvious reasons (Donald Trump and pals, the death of Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen and George Michael . . .), I have...

Philosophy in my kitchen
Christmas is just about a fortnight away. The days are longer dark than bright and we keep ourselves busy baking Christmas cookies. The time spent in the kitchen is clearly more than the rest of the year. It is a nice time to be philosophical about what is happening in our world today. We hear disturbing reports in the news media. Our newspapers, radio and television reported recurringly on the plight of the refugees, Syrians, Afghans, Eritrean... and the...

Nenek's Hot and Prickling Chicken Wings
Hallo this is Nenek in Zurich, the heiress to a huge and priceless collection of recipes to be shared with you here from time to time. Her maternal grandmother taught her to cook these in the form of informal practical daily meal preparations together. Nenek imbibed her grandmother's cooking theory that delicious food could be made when one would take the time to make a little effort in the process. When the grandmother came visiting which she did at...

SANTA STOLE MY LOVE
&& I won’t be home for Christmas 6 more weeks till 2017 would you believe? Time flies ever in a millisecond. So much to do, yet always so little time. As we draw near to the end of an apocalyptical year that is 2016, it’s time to breath out that cold shivered air and look forward to at least one good thing. Weinachtskekse Temperatures may have dropped, the parkas are back in style, but admittedly, Christmas season in...

BABY CAN WE BE BOBO CHIC?
Your home is your sanctuary Damn this chair… Anyone who knows me knows of my obsession when it comes to interior design. I may not have any outstanding degree on it, but interior design is like porn to me. Anyone who knows me even better knows that I can have quite an acquired and expensive taste with a very French bobo meets minimalism Scandi chic, and a hint of tropical Aztec prints. If Youporn was purely interior design, I’d be...

COOFFEE: COFFEE in the city
I love my neighbourhood. And sometimes it's hard to leave it, because there's already so much to do and see. While being in Greece I read of that new coffee shop which just opened not too far away from Stauffacher. So I was actually not that sad to return back home, since you know - I go crazy for speciality coffee. The guys from Stoll Kaffee (a local coffee roasting company) finally opened their own shop. One of the owners (he's a chef) kindly...

QUARTER LIFE CRISIS OVER
Above & beyond. Always remain true to your heart and to your soul. People will always try to bring you down, will always try to change you and turn you into something you’re not, but if you go above and beyond that and always remain true to your heart and to your soul, there really is nothing stopping you. There’s a big difference between active learning and constructive criticism vs. criticizing for the sake of being heard. It’s...

THE VEGAN HYPE
I love how all these so-called vegans still drink water That's a fish's house you savages In light of my previous post several weeks ago, where I go on about food appreciation in a work life environment , I decided that night to treat myself to yet another delectable dinner at my favorite vegan place just around the corner from Zurich HB, forgoing my usual sweet potato wrap as I poorly attempt to lay off carbs after 5PM. I did however enjoy a very...

Dear Baroness, I'm thinking of having an affair with a married man . . .
Dear Baroness, I think I’m going to have an affair with a married man. I haven’t decided but there’s a very good chance it will happen. This seems very clinical, I know. Usually these things just sort of happen, or not. But I’m in a kind of negotiation with this married man I know and adore. And I must admit, I like the idea of having some rules. It still feels dangerous and exciting to me somehow. I know this is kind of crazy. Am I...

Yoga Studio Sleepy Yogi: by Christina Hottinger
Well, I got to know Christina, the owner of Sleepy Yogi, through my workplace. And as you get to know her, you will instantly realize her calm, welcoming and warm-hearted sense of life. Currently Christina gets certificated as yoga therapist (focus on depressions). She finally oppened her yoga studio in the heart of Zurich. And I already took a class with her. Her classes are filled with serenity, cute jokes, a lot of smiles and love. You'll leave refreshed. (maybe...

Dear Baroness, is it true that men lose some of their life source when . . .
Dear Baroness, My boyfriend just started going to see a new physiotherapist/massage therapist/guru kind of guy and he told him one of the reasons he (my boyfriend) was so exhausted all this time was because he was having too much sex. Which makes sense in that we have a good amount of sex and we’re fairly athletic and so it can be tiring, but this guru guy (his word, not mine) says that the reason my boyfriend is so tired is because he is losing his...
