Piracy has never been much of a vocation in Zurich. The lake is far too small and there is no treasure island. Or is that strictly true? While the lake is too small for an effective Long John Silver or Jack Sparrow, it does contain a small island paradise.
Take the boat from Zurich and in one hour and forty minutes you will arrive at the small island of Ufenau to the south of the lake of Zurich. The journey itself is an entertainment. Imagine raiding and plundering the extravagant Gold Coast villas off the port beam (that’s left to you land lubbers) and as you look to starboard you can gaze at the magnificent Swiss alps.
The island itself belongs to the municipality of Freienbach but is actually the property of the Einsiedeln monastery and this explains why, unfortunately, swimming (and piracy) off the island is prohibited. But it definitely explains why half the buildings on the island are churches. There is the small chapel (St Martin) and the slightly larger church of St Peter and Paul which has stood there since the 12th Century. But does the island have treasure? Of course it does, in the form of the Haus zu den zwei Raben. There you can enjoy two golden treasures, a Bügelbier (one of those large biers with metal clasps, in case you didn’t know) and a plate of delicious Zürisee fried fish.
Rather than comandeer a vessel take the good ships of the Zurichsee navy. The schedule can be found here and, as they have bars on board you can enjoy a tot of rum.
With all the hot weather we’ve been having it’s great to get out on the water and enjoy the lake. Temperatures are often noticeable lower when you leave the shore so it provides some respite from the sweltering heat of the city. But
2. Watch out!
I've told you before but another warning can't hurt. Fraudsters are active on all housing platforms in Switzerland. Also on my pages. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that all offers are genuine. I do my best to blacklist any i catch but
3. Ice Cream For Grown Ups
I love an ice-cream on a warm summers day but maybe an ice cream with a slightly more adult theme. Why can’t we enjoy a drink with our ice-cream? Listen to some music. Dance while whilst enjoying a cocktail and a sorbet. Well now you can

Whenever a new Japanese restaurant opens somewhere, you can be sure that I’m not far behind. This new locale is called Ooki and serves gyoza, ramen, tempura, udon, Japanese curries and sake. The interior is very authentic, the
Hi, We are based in Oberhasli, Zurich, and are looking for somebody to sit a few hours with our cat. We are away between Thursday 14/04 and Monday 19/04, and don't want him to get lonely. If you would like to pay our cat company while reading a book, doing your home office, or would like to stay overnight, we and Ninja would be very happy. Price negotiable, and help on only some days would be sufficient, since we will have somebody come and feed him daily anyways.
Constantly increasing pressure to perform, new life situations and everyday obligations increasingly ensure in society that there is often little time for recreation and leisure. We have many interests but little time to pursue them, often have a limited circle of friends depending on our hobbies. It is almost impossible to take everything sufficiently into account and thus maintain the necessary balance in life.
This all makes it more important that we spend our time on what really makes us happy and that we can participate in social life.
An active and fulfilling life for all - together, instead of alone!
