As soon as I see the snow on the Uetliberg I get the urge to wax my snowboard and head for the hills. But it’s tricky if your boss will only let you take one day off. One of the great things about living in Zürich is that there are some great ski areas that are under an hour away and won’t max your credit card and Morschach-Stoos is one of them. (By the way, Stoos doesn't rhyme with blues)
There are two ways you can make it up to the village of Stoos and the ski area: The Morschach - Stoos gondola takes you to the east of the village and has great views over the Vierwaldstättersee. In Stoos they really put the fun into funicular with an amazing railway that looks as if it has been lifted directly from a James Bond movie. Four cylindrical pods carry you up to the village, rotating to keep the floor level. It’s a short journey but great.
Once at the top you have the option of taking the lift to the Klingenstock which provides some great pistes and a harder level but I recommend heading to the Fronalpstock where there are absolutely spectacular views over the Vierwaldstättersee and the surrounding countryside.
Okay, it’s small but it’s a great place for one day of skiing/snowboarding. Enjoy your day off…
In deference to the day that Jesus headed home after some pretty rough treatment at the hands of us sinners there will be no newsletter next week. But don’t worry, i have a couple of tips here for stuff to check out in the next
