I am a big fan of Indian cuisine so when i heard that a new Indian restaurant was opening i had to check it out. Tamarind Hill may already be familiar to some of you as they have an established restaurant in Oerlikon but they have branched out with a second restaurant at the opposite end of the 14 tram line.
The first impression is of a spacious interior where love and attention has been put into small details and my friends and i were warmly welcomed. The restaurant was well lit without being too bright and modern whilst retaining a clear Indian theme.
Often in Indian restaurants the menu can be rather overwhelming with hundreds of dishes, many of which are unfamiliar. Tamarind Hill has a varied menu but importantly, does not assume prior knowledge of Indian cuisine. Dishes are described in both German and English and with options for vegetarian or pescatarian dinners.
But what was the food like? Well, i ordered the Tawa Machi as a starter and i have to say it was delicious. The fish was cooked to perfection, tender, delicately spiced and full of flavour. It gets a big thumbs up from me. My friend took the Chicken Hydrabadi and, like the Tawa Machi it was beautifully cooked with delicious sauces.
For the main course i ordered the Lamb Thali as it would give me an opportunity to sample several dishes. The lamb was delicious as were the two vegetable side dishes. I ordered my lamb extra spicy and while it was not quite as spicy i usually like it allowed the flavour to shine though.
Is there anything negative say about Tamarind Hill? Whilst the food is excellent it is not cheap and anyone familiar with eating Indian food in say, London, would be shocked by the prices but on the upside, portions are generous. I would recommend ordering several dishes to share with one rice portion or nan bread for two people.
As the temperature drops the desire for Switzerland’s special, liquid gold increases. There’s nothing like the velvety texture and warming feeling of a good fondue and, when it’s with good friends and snow outside the window,

Hi, We are based in Oberhasli, Zurich, and are looking for somebody to sit a few hours with our cat. We are away between Thursday 14/04 and Monday 19/04, and don't want him to get lonely. If you would like to pay our cat company while reading a book, doing your home office, or would like to stay overnight, we and Ninja would be very happy. Price negotiable, and help on only some days would be sufficient, since we will have somebody come and feed him daily anyways.
