There's a street festival frenzy happening this weekend. Maybe it's just bad coordination, or a vague sense of panic setting in that summer is slowly packing away her golden trinkets for another year that has done it, but either way it's a good chance to cruise through town, open-air party-hopping.
The grandaddy of neighbourhood parties is now in its 22nd year, and this time they'll have dj Petit-Houblon kicking things off at 4 pm, followed by the mountain rock music of Jolly and the Flytrap and the Zurich punks, überyou. Dj Grau finishes things off with a bang after midnight. Friday 4 pm to 2 am, Hallwylplatz, 8004
This two day festival will have the live sounds of Africa booming through the Zurich streets on Friday with Urbain Guigemdé & Friends and the Afro-Soul of Thais Diarra. Then on Saturday it's the Zurich locals turn with the electro-pop of Len Sander and indie-electronica from Kalabrese & The Rumpelorchester. They'll also have plenty of djs playing in the square and at neighbouring Raygrodski bar, and food from Eritea and India. Saturday afternoon from 2 pm will be a kid-friendly zone with a playground and kids concert. Friday from 6 pm & Saturday from 2 pm, Brupbacherplatz, 8003
Another two day extravaganza is happening at Röntgenplatz. Friday has the summer reggae of Cheekbonians and the pop-rock of Panda Lux playing live, while Saturday has Howlong Wolf with their psychedelic-rock and the 80's disco of Pew Pew. Dj Sin Silvie will close things out on Saturday with a post-midnight dance set. Kids are welcome on Saturday afternoon to enjoy their own street party. Friday from 8pm and Saturday from 1.30 pm, Röntgenplatz, 8005
The Niederdorf doesn't want to be left out of the street festival fever, and so the Dörflifest is happening throughout the whole weekend. Frankly, there's too much happening to list here, but there'll be bands and dj's a-plenty playing on, and around, the main stage at Hirschenplatz, plus most of the bars and restaurants will either be in festival mode or have their own stalls out on the street. See full programme here. Friday 6 pm to 2 am, Saturday 11 am to s am, Sunday 12 pm to 10 pm, Niederdorf, 8001
If you don't want to go to any of the organised street parties, why not hold your own? Hansbank in allen Gassen wants to turn Zurich into a huge living room and have you either build your own bench, or adapt an existing one, and use them to get to know your neighbours by arranging a small event of some kind - a small concert, a lecture, game playing, or maybe just a drink and chat with each other. The choice is yours. You can add your bench to an online map to encourage visitors, or to help you find other benches to visit. If you are feeling adventurous and want to build your own bench, but have zero idea how, they're also arranging a building session with blueprints, experts and equipment on Saturday morning at Pavilleon on Werdemühlplatz. Saturday 11 am to 4 pm Bench building at Werdemühlplatz, 8001
Riffraff Kino will be breaking the forth wall on Sunday as they bounce between the screen and the street with their Block Party. They'll be showing a selection of movies throughout the day including Roald Dahl's Matilda; the Beatles documentary, It Was Fifty Year Ago Today; and Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, to which you'll get free entry to if you wear a Hawaiian shirt or sunglasses and moustache. Meanwhile, outside of the cinema you can enjoy the Beer Pong Olympics, a Lindy Hop crash-course, a Margarita bar, tutu's ice-pops, food and drink trucks from Inter Comestibles and Fork & Bottle, and live music from Cheibe Balagan. Sunday 10 am to 10 pm, Riffraff, Neugasse 57, 8005
I've told you before but another warning can't hurt. Fraudsters are active on all housing platforms in Switzerland. Also on my pages. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that all offers are genuine. I do my best to blacklist any i catch but

I am looking for a drawing class.
When living in Lausanne, I used to attend classes where I mainly used pencil & charcoal and drew nude models.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar class in Zürich?
