Time is like a river and this year it feels like a raging torrent. Yet another month has gone by and, as you probably know by now, we have a new comic illustrator, Noémie Fatio from Biel. I took some time out to find out what she wanted to be as a child, her favourite things and the style of music that makes her weak at the knees.
Would you like to briefly introduce yourself and your career? (Name, education, profession, projects) Hello, my name is Noémie Fatio. I am a comic artist, illustrator and graphic designer from Biel. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication in Bern in 2022. I'm currently working on my first graphic novel «MA» - for which I received the Comicstipendium der Deutschschweizer Städte at the Fumetto Festival. As co-editor of the STRAPAZIN comic magazine, I also had the pleasure this year of editing the September 2023 issue «Extended Realities» together with Julia Marti. My work is often narrative. I like to draw colourful dream worlds, mysterious faces and floating objects in combination with kitschy lettering.
And can you tell me something about the pictures in this month's newsletter? The image selection is a selection of older and newer illustrations. They are realised both digitally and analogue; a wide range of my work.
Do you have a favourite image from them and if so, why? My personal favourite is the image with the different heads connected to each other by the braids. This motif was created during a print residency at the Turbopress studio in Biel. I particularly like the joke in the picture and the different interpretations that can be formed from it.
What did you want to be when you were a child? This is going to sound totally ironic... but I actually wanted to be an illustrator! Haha!
How would you describe your style? If I were to define it in four words, it would be: colourful, organic and linear with art nouveau inspirations.
Do you have a favourite colour? I don't really have a favourite colour. It's more like favourite colour combinations that I have in phases. At the moment I love working with blue and orange.
What issues are particularly close to your heart? Feminism. Finally, I read a book by Lauren Bastide about queerfeminist shaping the future, which is about ecofeminism, among other things. I want to read up more on it. Who knows, maybe it will influence my work? Also, my graphic novel addresses a feminist view of motherhood. I feel very addressed by these topics and have the desire to express myself on them - especially visually, as I can express myself best through drawing.
Where did you grow up and did that have an influence on the course of your life? Or also on your drawings? Biel is my hometown and city of the heart, where I currently still live and work. It is gratifying to see how this city is enlivened by culture. I couldn't name how this city influences my drawings, but it certainly stimulates me unconsciously through its creativity.
What brings you joy at the moment? Everything I associate with the lake: Bathing in the lake, picnicking with friends by the lake, playing cards and having long conversations there until the sun goes down - that is my greatest joy at the moment.
What is the most challenging thing in your life right now? At the moment, maybe standing behind your own work and the decisions that go with it. As a young, artistic woman, I want to gain self-confidence and take up the space that is rightfully mine.
What do you like to draw the most? At the moment, my favourite thing to draw is everyday objects with faces on them. That way I can give them a personality and they seem more alive.
What can comics, cartoons and illustrations do that other media cannot? Illustrations, shapes and colours are universal carriers of messages and emotions. It goes beyond the language barrier. That's why I find it a very expressive medium. In comics, images and text complement each other. This combination brings out the intention and context of a story even more.
List a few of your favourite things (or moments or experiences) in a nutshell.
- The crochet trend has caught me too - hence crochet. - Recently, I was so moved by a reading that it brought tears to my eyes. - Trolli-sour-Dino sweets from Migros - Miam, miam! - Coffee in the morning from my favourite cup - An evening swim after a hot day - After dinner, sitting at the table with my friends and chatting for a long time - or as a good friend of mine would call it: «Sobremesa». - When I'm really in the drawing flow. - My Bruxelles playlist: A colourful compilation of songs, (electro techno, acid house, baile funk to varietés françaises,) that I listened to backwards and forwards during my stay in this city - nostalgia guaranteed!
What do many people not know about you? I have a big weakness for schmaltzy bossa nova songs.... Haha!

Principles of Analyzing Football Betting Odds
2.1 Choose a Reliable Bookmaker
Currently, there are many different bookmakers in the football betting market. However, it's essential to select reputable bookmakers that provide a wide range of betting options, offer quick odds updates, have user-friendly betting interfaces, and facilitate fast deposits and withdrawals. Additionally, the odds offered by the bookmaker should be competitive compared to other bookmakers.
In summary, understanding betting odds is a critical concept you need to grasp when participating in football betting. We hope this article has provided you with specific insights into different types of betting odds offered by bookmakers and how to accurately analyze them. By doing so, you can increase your chances of winning bets and minimize risks when placing wagers.
2.2 Survey the Displayed Betting Odds
Bookmakers often provide betting odds for matches several days in advance, usually ranging from 5 to 7 days before the game. At the same time, bettors can place wagers even after the match has started. However, these odds fluctuate based on the volume of bets placed on different outcomes. A valuable tip for successful betting is to visit the bookmaker's site frequently to check the most up-to-date odds.
2.3 Understand Betting Odds Information
When engaging in football betting, you must understand how to read and interpret the odds offered by bookmakers, especially in handicap or over/under (Total Goals) betting, which can be more intricate compared to the Asian Handicap betting. Therefore, your first task is to research these different betting odds, understand how to read them, and analyze them before making your bets.

Effective Betting Odds Analysis Tips
Bear in mind that analyzing football betting odds accurately isn't something you can master overnight. Therefore, here are some tips to enhance your odds analysis:
Evaluate the odds reasonably to avoid falling into bookmakers' traps. Pay special attention to odds with high potential returns, as they are often more challenging to win, particularly for novice bettors. Exercise caution and avoid excessive risk-taking when betting on such odds.
Research match information before analyzing odds and placing bets. Consider factors such as starting lineups, team styles, form, head-to-head records, and tournament characteristics. In-depth analysis will help you make informed betting choices.
Focus on matches for which bookmakers have recently released odds. This is when odds are less volatile, and you can gather more objective assessments with higher accuracy. Avoid analyzing odds close to match kick-off, as bookmakers often employ various tactics to confuse bettors during this period.
