Okay, so we’re not basking on the coast of Mediterranean, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the water. At destinations along Lake Zurich there are different types of water sports to choose from – and learning them on a lake might just provide a safer way to learn than if you were faced with sea dangers like strong currents, dangerous winds, sharks or jellyfish!
The Ruderclub and Kanuclub, both canoe/kayak on the Limmat and the lake, and have information on renting a canoe for the day.
Although wave-riding may not seem possible in Zurich, over the last few years a number of Limmatwave campaigners have lobbied to create an artificial wave in the city’s largest river. Their plans seem ambitious but they’re gaining new support all the time.
The Seeclub Zurich and the Belvoir Rowing Club (for women) are both near the city end of the lake and cater to all levels. Or my personal tip: Get a standard rowing boat like in the picture at one of the boat rental stations at the lake.
