Vinyl sales are on the up. In fact they are poised to out sell CD’s for the first time since 1986 according to Rolling Stone magazine. And there is something special about taking a record from its sleeve, hearing the crackle as the needle hits and actually listening to the whole album without skipping. But some guys never left the game and while the vinyl presses slowed or stopped they were still there, serving the crate diggers. Here are some of my favourite record shops in the city.

What makes this place special: On the Facebook Page there's a weekly picture gallery with the latest gems. And if you can’t make it down there, they’ll mail the records out to you.

What makes this place special: No matter what time or mood i am in there is always something going on and something i want to buy. Buzz aka Boss Hi-Fi is a gifted DJ and a real music connoisseur. And if you don’t have anything to store your new vinyl on you can also pick that up here. Because they also sell vintage furniture and clothes.
What makes this place special: The music is divided into quirky genres like "Kill Yourself Dancing" or "Bedroom Tribals". Once you get used to it, it is quite inspiring and a great way to discover new music.
Specialises in: Avant Garde, Jazz, Modern Classical, Minimal, Pop, World Music und Electronica
What makes this place special: Veit Stauffer, the owner, is a music legend. He has a great empathy for music and can make very fitting recommendations. Check out the Rec Rec-Blog on the website, where the most popular and noteworthy records are presented.
Specialises in: Nznznz. That means, anything that you will hear in clubs.
What makes this place special: The shop is a hub in the Zurich music scene so you’ll find lots of new, local releases here. Every now and then the DJ’s hang out here, making a great place for music lovers and the musicians themsleves.
