Mountains Of Burgers

One of the items on my bucket list that is not yet fulfilled is that i would love to visit the Himalayas and experience the wonders of Tibet and Nepal. But it’s a long journey so when i heard that a new Tibetan burger restaurant had opened i figured i could get a taste of the Himalayas without a twelve hour flight.

Don’t be confused, although it says burger in the name Himalaya Burger is not a burger joint in the traditional sense and as such Americana and neon lights are conspicuous by their absence. Instead it is brightly lit, spacious with a picture of the Dalai Lama gazing serenely down as you dine. A lounge area to the left of the restaurant provides a spot for those who prefer to have a less formal dining experience.

As you would expect in a restaurant with «Himalaya» in the name Momos featured on the menu and, as a starter (they are on the menu as a main,) my companion and i ordered the veggie option. They were really good, tasing both fresh and with good ingredients.

Next up was the burger. I order a classic burger and my companion a veggie burger. Any remaining illusions of a traditional burger were shattered  when they arrived, the only concession to the conventional being a mountain of fries. The «burger» didn’t consist of a patty and bun but a steamed roll filled with small pieces of delicately spiced beef. I also had a health bite of my friends veggie burger and, whilst i couldn’t exactly what was in it, it was also delicious with great texture. 

Okay, a trip to Tibet is still on my bucket list but my visit to Himalaya Burger has just served to whet my appetite even more. The food is good, the service was very friendly and it was reasonably priced. What’s not to like?
