Kafi Freud: Joy at Milchbuck

Is there such a thing as too many cafés? I don't think so. Especially if they serve excellent coffee and cake like Kafi Freud. Kafi Freud? Yes, its name reminds of Schnaps, Dihei and Für Dich. Which is good, because if you like them you'll also like Kafi Freud. 

In November, this bijou opened its doors at Schaffhauserstrasse 118 - and yes, I admit, the location was a reason it took me while to discover it. Sorry about that that. But better late than never I'd say. Its owner Roschen Cevatli shares this sentiment: «A café had been missing here in the neighbourhood. So I took my chance.»

He turned the venue into a modern café with vintage-charme with plants and reading corners, ideal to sit back, enjoy a latte macchiatto while reading a few pages. If you like the book, you can take it with you and leave another one behind. 

Roschen is the man for all jobs, he came up with the concept and the design, he is the host but he's also the chef: «I love to cook but the cakes are baked by Cynthia, a friend of mine who is a professional baker.» Next to  a daily changing selection of cakes you'll also find bread and pastry by Vier Linden and Seri Backwaren. For lunch you find home-made quiches and fresh salads as well as a soup of the day by Suppen und Pedale.

And of course, they also serve brunch: Every Saturday scrambled eggs meet avocado, humus and pepers. Or if you prefer it sweet, try warm banana-bread with tahina, prosecco and fresh orange juice. 

However, if you want to visit Kafi Freud on Wednesday or Sunday, you'll stand in front of closed doors. Wednesday will stay like this, as it's Roschen's daughter-father-day. But for Sunday, he's currently looking into hiring someone. I keep my fingers crossed.
