Fresh and Funky

Another Italian restaurant in Zurich? What makes Brera special? I thought i’d head over and check it out. 

Brera is a little bit off the beaten track, located in the quiet area of Zurich between Bäckeranlage and Lochergut and the entrance is only obvious from the trendy young things having a smoke outside. 

Once you are inside a long bar dominates the right hand side and directly to the left is a lounge area and the restaurant is well lit without being to bright. Brera has found a good balance: Stylish without being contrived. A place you can take a first date or a casual night with friends.

«But there’s plenty on Italian restaurants in Zurich ,» i hear you cry. It’s true, pizza, pasta and risotto are all on the menu but there are twists on theses staples with pizzas served with gorgonzola rather than mozzarella but importantly everything i ate tasted, (i took a pizza) great: Fresh and with good quality ingredients.

Three things sold Brera to me. The cocktails look and taste amazing, (i’m sure i recognised the mixologist from Raygrodski) and the decor and vibe of the place is fantastic. Brera has a young, progressive feel and, naturally, has attracted that sort of crowd. Finally, for Zurich, the prices are reasonable. When i saw Brera i was concerned i would have to take out a mortgage but i felt that it was good value. Definitely worth giving a try.
