Mexican Invasion: Malacopa in Tellhof

Fancy an Ice Cream on this cold winter day? Thought not. Mezcal, Raw Wines and Mexican street food are much more my style on a winters day which is why the Gelateria Tellhof transmogrifies into Malacopa from 10th January until the 4th of March. 

First things first: The menu is small but this allows for each dish to be all the more convincing. Better a small but great menu than large and average, right? And authentic ingredients from here and abroad takes you south of the border. I was particularly impressed with the homemade corn tortillas which can be filled with meat or vegetables.

What else do you  need to know?

• If you have a hangover be sure to order the Trout ceviche. As well as being delicious the juices are supposed to be a great cure for a hammering bitch behind the eyes.
• Want a late night alternative to a dirty kebab? You’ll get it here as the kitchen is open until midnight so it’s a great spot if you are on the late shift. 
• There’s no wine list. Search the wine rack for something you like the look of and open the bottle at the counter. Be sure to take a picture of the label if it’s good. The wine selection at Malacopa changes constantly.

Instagram suitability: The interior is great but the lighting not so much. Bring a tripod and set your camera to a long exposure. 2 out of 5 flashbulbs.

Most suitable for: An evening with good friends. This is street food. You might want to take a Tinder-date somewhere where there is less danger of getting the food on your clothes. 

Ron's Ultimate Tip: No matter how much you have eaten do not miss the chocolate mousse with pineapple.
