“Summer is the time when it's too hot to do the job that it was too cold to do last winter.” - Mark Twain
Summer may be coming to an end, but the weather's still good enough to enjoy! During this time of the year you can enjoy every last minute outdoors with such pleasant temperatures and try to store enough heat, endorphins and vitamin D for the dark, dark winter months.
Obviously, this year we really can't complain. Nevertheless, we should be aware of our privileged status and enjoy the rest of September to the max.
And to help you make the most of them, we've compiled our Top 6 Terraces to be found in Zurich. Have fun, enjoy and keep worshipping the sun while it's still around!
When the sun sets behind the boats gently rocking on the water, and everything is bathed in the twilight glow, it's easy to become absorbed by the warm atmosphere and unwind in the evening bliss. When the sun goes down behind the gently rocking in the water boats and everything becomes coated with a delicate sunset, it is easy in this atmospheric and cosy, trendy and cheerful atmosphere, a way to experience blissful deep relaxation. When Fischer's Fritz serves up its fresh catch of the day, you'll feel as if you've stepped through the pearly white gates to culinary heaven! Highly recommended: grilled artichoke, fish goujons and the grilled fish or meat served on a hot stone!
This beautiful boutique hotel with its gourmet restaurant, enchanting garden and picturesque terrace offers an oasis of peace and relaxation amidst the vibrant hustle and bustle of the city. Centrally located in the Zurich's Old Town, near the Art House and the Theatre, one experiences this culinary treasure alongside plenty of history. A craftwork business was formerly housed inside the 18th century mansion, which was known for its production of silk. Nowadays, upscale cuisine is celebrated in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Must try: Roasted rack of lamb with mint jelly.
We had once claimed to have found the most beautiful sunset in Zurich already, however Quai 61 definitely bring this into question. The view over the Alps, Lake Zurich and the city is simply breathtaking. In 2013, the lakeside restaurant, which was originally built for a horticulture exhibition in 1959, was taken over by a visionary duo and rests upon 61 stilts so it literally floats on the water of Lake Zurich. Whether on the sun deck to soak up the rays and get that 'holiday feeling' or sipping on sophisticated cocktails in the stylish bar or even relaxing in the quiet, cosy garden, Quai 61 is the perfect location to unwind with fresh lake air. Our tip: Be sure to check out the delicious and extensive brunch offered on a Sunday!
Where better to spend a warm evening than overlooking the stunning Lake Zurich? Should one be blessed with a boat that needs mooring, there are private berths available. And if you're a landlubber, you can still indulge in the summer dream as if you were in Saint-Tropez or swanning around Monaco! Our tip: The 'ageing well menu', an extremely delicious culinary creation which has a health concious diet in mind. You can also enjoy the newly created Chambre Séparée to celebrate a special occasion in a seclusion with up to 20 people.
Back in the city, not all of us fancy spending the last days of summery weather on the shores of Lake Zurich. Tao's is located in Zurich's centre and offers sophisticated Euro-Asian cuisine with an elegant Far-Eastern interior. The terrace, or rather the enchanting garden, is reminiscent of the story of the Chinese emperor and his nightingale with its relaxed, calm atmosphere and floral beauty.
Located on Zurichhorn, the Fischtube is our only lakeside location on the list which is set on the opposite shore. In Kreis 8, it is a wonderful location with a stunning terrace. As the name would imply, here fish is the main attraction. Whether it's sea bass, Arctic char, turbot or perch, fish lovers come here from all over and get their money's worth.

CHUCHINI is a protected area and situated on artificial pre-Columbian hills. These hills are built by the hydraulic civilisation more than 10.000 years ago. They built the mounds to stay dry in the rainy season. Every year, during the rainy season the area will flood and the hills become islands. The hydraulic civilisation named it ‘Chuchini’. Chuchini means in the language Mojeño Trinitario ‘House of the Jaguar’. During rainy season jaguars travel from far to rest on the islands. That is the reason why they call it house of the jaguar. Not only the jaguars use the islands to have a rest. Almost every animal in the area.
Chuchini is a protected area and the only safe place. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is under treat by deforestation, poaching, agriculture and other illegal activities. The animals come from far away to have a rest on the islands. To prevent the populations from collapsing we want to create more habitat by building 20 smaller islands around the existing islands. Basically we give the animals more chance to survive!
To create a little safe haven for the animals we make small adjustments in the area. We will build 20 islands and provide it with endemic fruit plants and trees. The vegetation that we will plant give the animals year round fruit and shelter possibilities.
