Restaurant tips: The top 10 newly opened places in Europe
Did you know that all of these fantastic places haven't been open for long? If not, then it isn't too late too try them out! Holland's first roofed market, a Peruvian with a British element to it, gourmet hotdogs, oysters, pork and the best view in Zurich all get a shout! Next time you're off to London, Rotterdam, Madrid, Berlin or Geneva, you should make sure you visit one of these brilliant places.
Rather surpring, but this place is the first covered market in the whole of the Netherlands. It isn't just enormous, but also an apartment complex! Under the arch of this wonderfully designed building is where you'll find the market hall with nearly 100 stands, selling all kinds of fresh, organic fruit, veg, meat and fish. It's a real temple of food! There's also a supermarket as well as plenty of other shops and restaurants spread over the first and second floors. Above that you'll find the apartments with their spectacular view s over Rotterdam. This place is an absolute must for foodies and arcitecture lovers alike.
The Fat Dog, Amersterdam
Hot dog heaven! Similar to Bubbledogs in London, the concept here is simple: enjoy a delicious hotdog which has been covered in delicious toppings. Treat yourself with a glass of champagne (or probably a Gin & Tonic).
Pachamama Bar + Kitchen, London
If you're in Marylebone, you definitely have to try Pachamama's Peruvian cuisine. On the menu you'll find tasty ceviches, numerous grilled specialties, fresh salad and other warm dishes, alongside a fantastic selection of cocktails. There are also different infused piscos and some really spectacular seasonal cocktails to choose from. Even when a Peruvian dish is served, all of the ingredients; the vegetables, fish and meat, are seasonally selected and are produced in Britain.
Chez Henri, Geneva
Behind the Hamburg Foundation, somewhat hidden, lies the stylish, speakeasy style bar Chez Henri. A great place for a drink after your day's work is done, or just to meet up with a couple of friends. The oysters are definitely worth an order, to go along with a glass of wine
This place is a gem in the surrounding Neukölln and should definitely not be missed should you be in Berlin. Hidden in the second courtyard along Elbestraße, this restaurant has an extremely impressive wine list and the cuisine on offer will certainly win you over. In summer, the terrace glints in the sun, but it's at its very best on a cool evening.
If even this restaurant is one of the newest on the block, it's still the place to be. You simply have to try Diverxo! This 3 Michelin star restaurant is David Muñoz's, and is only one of 8 places in the whole of Spain to have such an honour. He serves up Iberian cuisine ( Muñoz is Madrid born and bred) with an Asian twist, having been a student of Hakkasan and Nobu. So next time you head to Madrid, get a table booked at Diverxo at least a month in advance!
The Beast, Paris
BBQs are not something that you'd immeditaely associate with Paris. It's appropriately named 'The Beast' (after the 6 square metre smoker oven, specially made in Texas for this restaurant), afterall it's seemlingly tradition to give your oven a name. It's quite possibly the best smokery in the whole of Paris (there surely aren't many of them). After his time in Texas, where he learnt the tips and tricks of the trade, and a journey to Kentucky where he got his fantastic Bourbon, Thomas Abramowicz had everything he needed to open 'The Beast' in Paris. For anyone who enjoys a large chunk of slow cooked meat (the focus here is on beef, but you'll also be able to enjoy fantastic chicken, spareribs and pulled pork) then look no further than 'The Beast'.
Well, what do you think's on the menu here? Well, pork of course. Pork, pork and more pork. In this restaurant, every part of the pig is used, from snout to tail, and it's prepared in every possible way you can think of. Salted, smoked, grilled, air dried, roasted... Everything is sourced directly from the producers, so you can rest assured that you're only being served the finest food around. It's a fantastic concept. The 'core' dishes are naturally what catch your eye, but this is no one trick pony. They show just how varied, interesting and delicious this product is! There are also brilliant Gin & Tonics and special beers.
Parini 1915, Milan
This former pharmacy has been transformed into a wine bar, restaurant and shop in a beautful way. The restaurant serves classical Italian dishes such as a Risotto alla Milanese, Cotoletta Alla Milanese, Burrata and some delicious, typical Italian desserts like tiramisu, semifreddo and ricotta-mousse with honey. You shouldn't miss checking out the shop and taking a couple of things home with you to enjoy the next day.
Our tip for Zurich: The Rooftop
With a spectacular view over the city, this gem glints with culinary finesse as one of Zurich brightest stars in terms of gastronomy. It wows its diners with its especially well done concept of Asian inspired fusion with its full flavours and trendy atmosphere, there are also fantastic cocktails avilable to enjoy too.
Simply the finest dumplings you're going to find in the city, and a stunning view over Zurich's roofs.
I love a bit of cheese. Whether it’s Raclette, Fondue or just a piece of Cheddar with bread, a good culinary evening usually requires a visit to the cheese shop. But where to go? I tested out a few of the cheese shops in the city.
