A new Chinese restaurant in Kreis 4? I have to say i was a bit scepitcal at first.
Though a shy glimpse through the bright red door at the corner Zwinglistrasse/ Kanonengasse was enough to make me curious. None of the usual kitsch was in sight, the restaurant is rather understated, except for the oversized Chinese symbols on the wall. «We wanted to create something simple that fits in with the neighbourhood», explains manager Kesang Soghatsang.
A modern kind of Hutong will follow in the summer in the inner courtyard: a hideaway where you socialise and enjoy the food. Which is exquisite!
«At Hongxi we cook athentic Chinese food», shares Kesang. «For lunch we offer daily changing wok dishes, soups and dim sum. And in the evening you'll find about 30 kind of dim sum on the menu.»
The dumplings were amazing, i loved the ones filled with vegetable and peanuts, oozed over the ones filled with pork, and the sticky-rice balls with mango-pomelo-soup was to die for. What's the secret?
«We generally use fresh, regional ingrediants», explains Kesang. And at Hogxi three chefs who know their business make sure to turn the products into food filled with flavour. «We have two dim-sum-specialists. One worked at Shang Palace at Hotel Shangri-La in Paris, the other joined us from Le Tsé Fung at Hotel La Réserve in Geneva.» The last of the masterful trio is wok-chef Ma, who tries to explain the Chinese symbols to me. One represents «food». Very fitting.
Piracy has never been much of a vocation in Zurich. The lake is far too small and there is no treasure island. Or is that strictly true? While the lake is too small for an effective Long John Silver or Jack Sparrow, it does contain a

It’s a classic French scene. A shady, tree lined town square where men in berets smoke Gauloise and play with their shiny silver balls. I’m talking of course about the game of pétanque. Now, i have never played but this

It is fun to cook good food and to eat that which you have cooked. Here the daunting part comes afterwards: the piles of dishes and utensils to be washed. To avoid the chore of washing up, one could go eat out. Here the challenge

6 years ago we welcomed 'Dini Mueter' to the Langstrasse. This summer, the bar and restaurant underwent a refurbishment and just reopened its doors with a new concept and a new name. Well, actually the new name is also the concept: Lucky
