Zurich (EN) : Zurich 06.10.2022: Paul, Frieda & Daniel

Good Morning Ronster

Did you break out the winter jacket last week? If the falling leaves didn’t remind you to do so then the vestiges of hurricane Ian gave a wake up call that autumn is here and winter is on its merry way.

But if last week's weather got you down i am going to cheer you up with some giveaways. I have tickets to the Zürich Film Orchestra show on Sunday and, over the course of this month, i am going to be featuring some local food and drink producers in the newsletter who have some fantastic products for you Ronsters to try...for free! Scroll down to find out more. Have a great weekend and…

Exhibition: Premiere – Paul meets Punk

The French pop-duo Daft Punk, Swiss visual artist Paul Klee and the wonders of technology are the three main ingredients for the immersive digital artshow that will elevate your Autumn weekends this year. Although Klee is famous for his paintings he was epic in many ways. He was destined to be a musician but rebelled and went for painting instead, barely passing high-school because he spent his time drawing caricatures. He fought in the first world war but continued painting and drawing while being enlisted. Anyways, i digress, all this to say, go to the expo to honour this cool Swiss artist. The premiere of the show is this Thursday, but if you have plans already, you can get tickets for any of the shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 19 November.

Opening: Gerold's Metamorphosis

Many animals hibernate for the winter: Bears, Bats, Turtles, Bees… even i have considered it this year. But Frau Gerold? During the winter and starting this Friday, Frau Gerold makes a spectacular metamorphosis. Log burners and warming mulled wine replace the cold beers and, of course, the «Winterstübli» welcomes you with…well, i am sure you can guess what they serve. It’s made of cheese and you dip bread in it.

For an active activistic Saturday, hop on your mono- or bicycle and join the ride against hate that kicks off on Helvetiaplatz. The ride is – in the words of the WE RIDE organization – for «all them queers and allies» and celebrates queer joy and greatness all while protesting against hate crimes against the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope you’ll come roll alongside me and many others!

Party: Frieda Gets Moody

As you Ronsters know i love a birthday party, especially when it’s my own but this weekend another Zurich institution celebrates its 12th Birthday. Night club Frieda’s Büxe is on the cusp of metaphorical puberty and alongside getting zits, arguing with family members and slamming doors, will be having a party this Saturday night to celebrate with 31 hours of non-stop DJ’s. I counted 21 with the stand out DJ name being «Burt Cobain». Love it!

Concert: Film Music - The Modern Classics

It seems that the path most modern orchestral composers must tread these days is the path into film music and, i must admit, i still get a little tingle of excitement when i hear the opening bars of the Star Wars suite. There are so many fantastic orchestral film pieces and this week the ZFO (or Zürcher Filmorchester to give it its full name,) are playing a program of film themes at the Volkshaus this Sunday. Want to check it out? I have a pair of tickets to give away. Drop me an e-mail and let me know why you’d like to go.

Sparkly personalities and sprinkly salts is what defines SMIQQL, the Zürich based, couple-owned company that quickly became known as, (arguably,) the creators of Zürich’s best cookies. But SMIQQL is so much more than that! The one half of the duo is a spice lover, the other a lover of mild flavors, so they created eight incredible salt and spice combinations to take their own and now your meals to the next level. The names of the spice combos are as enticing as the flavours themselves, like the lemony Little Boom, the spicy Critical Chili and the cinnamonny Turkish Tang. Follow them on Instagram or check out their website to discover all the flavours. And you can even win all the flavours + the epic cookies as SMIQQL is doing a giveaway. Comic In October: Luigi Olivadoti

As we head into autumn washed out blue skies and red and brown leaves replace the vivid colours of summer. And, of course, we have a new comic series. Luigi Olivadoti's illustrations tell colourful stories about people, places and himself so i asked him about his favourite colour, his sources of inspiration and his childhood in a large family.
