Zurich (EN) : Zurich 23.06.2022: Genesis, Candlelight & The Noughties

Good Morning Ronster

Wow, what a weekend. The weather, the pride parade and, of course, Rooftop Day. I'd like to say a special thanks to our sponsors Crodino and Micasa for their support but at the end of the day it's you Ronsters that make the day special. Thanks again.

But onto this week. A new concert series starts this week and i've got a pair of tickets to give away. Scroll down to find out more. But whatever you get up to have fun and...

Concert: Not That Genesis

Bogen F has had some great gigs of late as they catch up with the (hopefully,) post covid backlog but they really do deserve a rest after a busy few months. Their last show before the summer break will be the amazing Australian/Ghanaian rapper, Genesis Owusu, who will be hitting the stage this Thursday. I love a funky, disco infused groove and if you do too then you’re going to dig Genesis.

Thursday 9pm, Bogen F, Viaduktstrasse 97, 8005

Shopping tip: Bargains Galore In Kreis Four

Yay. Another Kreisflohmi. This time Kreis 4, (which stretches all the way from the Sihl to the Letzigrund Stadium,) will show what they have to offer in terms of interesting clothes, furniture and…er…just about whatever you could imagine. There are loads of locations and if you cover all of them you have really earned those hard found gems.

Party: Feeling A Bit Noughty

Music from the noughties? The new punk scene, Robbie Williams, Radiohead and a layer of cheese provided by countless boybands. If you fancy a night of reminiscence, (or even if you want to listen for the first time,) X-Tra are hosting the Ultimate 2000’s Party. And as it’s for over 18’s a few «Teenage Dirtbags» will be welcome.

Party: Frieda's Off For The Summer

Earlier in the newsletter i mentioned summer breaks and this weekend is the final party of the season at Frieda’s Büxe. If dancing all night long is your thing then don’t miss the final opportunity to check out a host of DJ’s before they reopen in the Autumn.

Concert: Classics By Candlelight

I love classical music but stuffy venues and stuffier people can be a big turn off. And whilst i love the sound of a string quartet it would be nice to hear something new and fresh as well as the classics. Fortunately the Candlelight concert series from Fever aims to do just that: Starting this Sunday their program mixes classical composers with more contemporary music. I’m intrigued to hear the music of Queen and Adele and the best Anime soundtracks to name but a few. But best of all, oi have a pair of tickets to give away to the show of your choice, (subject to availability of course.) Check out their website and drop me an e-mail letting my know why you'd like to attend.

Good to know: Farm Shopping In The City

Buying produce direct from the farmer or shortening supply lines sounds like a great idea but when there is a, (Insert supermarket chain here,) next door it’s easy to head there rather than head out into the countryside. Thankfully a successful new Bernese start up called «Ruedu» has opened it’s doors very close to the Letzigrund stadium which makes buying regional fruit, meat and vegetables far simpler and convenient.

Much like farm shops and «Hofladen» in the countryside the shop works on trust so there will be no burly men in uniforms checking your groceries. However, you will need to register on their website in order to access the store.

On The Road: Suspend Your Disbelief

Switzerland is full of surprises but if you have travelled to the Ticino by car the «perm-a-jam» at the Gotthard tunnel will not be one. Recently, in an attempt to avoid it i travelled along the Rhône valley which runs between Brig in the Valais and Andermatt in Canton Uri. The valley features some amazing sights, not least the Aletsch Glacier, (visit it while it’s still there,) which can be accessed via the ski lifts at Bettmeralp and Fiesch. And who can forget the hilariously named village of Bitsch which sits at the end of the valley, close to Brig?

But, as you travel along the valley don’t miss the spectacular «Hängebrücke Fürgangen». The 280 meter footbridge spans the valley with the sound of the Rhône rushing through the gorge 92 meters below. It is truly spectacular if you have the nerve to look down. Click the button to find out more.
