Good morning Ronster

Good morning Ronster

I used to think Pentacost was a kind of backwards «Black Friday» where everything cost five times as much. But no! Pentacost, (or Pfingsten as it is known in these parts,) is yet another excuse to have a long weekend. And as it's a long weekend can whoever has been doing the rain dance please stop it.

You may also be wondering why the picture above features a delightful Ron Orp towel. I’ll be carrying mine around the city on Tuesday. Scroll down to find out why. Keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine, have a great weekend and...

Give my love to the city

As you may well know the canton of Zurich has opened up vaccination appointments for all those under 50 and many of you may have been shouting «Vac You,» at the Vac Me website as appointments run dry. Well fortunately there is a website that can help you find an available appointment in the many «Impfzentrum» around the Canton of Zurich. Simply visit this site and it will show all available appointment with updates every few minutes.

If you didn’t know about the gem that is Urania-Sternwarte then it’s time to get better aquainted. Zurich’s own observatory is holding a series of events over the next couple of days starting with «How do you communicate with Aliens» on Friday and an exhibition on the Northern Lights on Saturday. By the way, this is part of the city’s Abendteuer Stadtnatur festival. Check out their website for more events.

Do you know Kabuki-chō? It’s Tokyo’s notorious entertainment hub and red light district and Kanonaegass Bar are bringing its unique flavour to Kreis 4 with a new pop up called «Kabuki-chō Kitten». Enjoy a Japanese beer or plum wine with authentic Izakaya food and Mochi Ice Cream. They’ll be running every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the 19th of June so don’t delay…

I know that being a «petrol head» is not so cool nowadays, what with all of the environmental considerations but i still love the old American car designs. If you are around on Sunday then Labor 5 are hosting their «Harley Treff» for lovers of two wheeled Americana and on Monday, their «US Car Treff» giving you an opportunity to check out some classic US gas guzzlers.

Frozen food, carried half way across the globe on smoking container ships. It ain’t great for the planet, is it? A great solution is to buy seasonal produce from local suppliers rather than take the easy route to the big supermarkets. Fortunately Stadt Zurich offers a helping hand with a pretty good list of «Hofladen» where you can purchase delicious fruit, veg and other stuff pretty much direct from the farmer. And with locations all over the city there is bound to be one close to you.

Good to know: Ron Knows Where His Towel Is

«…any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.»

I love the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Tuesday is, (believe it or not,) «Towel Day», a celebration of British author Douglas Adams who, of course, created HHGTTG. Take a towel into the city on Tuesday and take a pic under the hashtag, #towelday.

p.s. If you haven't got a clue about the meaning of the number 42 and towels then i recommend you read the books. They're still great after all these years.
