Good Morning Ronster

Good Morning Ronster

On 29th April, 17 years ago i sent out my very first newsletter. The world was a different place back then. Usher Feat. Lil' Jon & Ludicris were top of the hitparade. A few days previously Google Mail was launched and a nerdy chap called Zuckerberg introduced us to...something that wasn't MySpace (do people still remember that?) This year my birthday has to be a virtual one so check out how to tune in for my celebrations. Have a great start to May and...

Give my love to the city.

Concert: Better Moods

The terraces are well and truly open giving the city a wonderful cafe culture feeling. But what of concerts? Well, Moods are once again opening their doors, albeit to small audiences, with three concerts over the course of the weekend. I don’t know about you Ronsters but i am desperate to see some live music again.

8pm Fri, Sat & Sun, Moods, Schiffbauplatz, 8005

For many people living in Zurich it is difficult to engage with local matters and politics as, without a Swiss passport, you simply don’t have a say. Well at least you ex-pat Ronsters can have a say on the future of the Stolzehüsli which sits on the Stolzewiese by the tram stop Seilbahn Rigiblick. What will it be? A café, a meeting space, a climate centre… you can decide if you vote by the 5th of May.

But it’s not just jazz clubs that are re-opening their doors, (and i get it if going to a jazz gig isn’t your thing.) Fortunately Rote Fabrik have managed to negotiate a route through the maze that is the current regulations and are presenting a concert with Canadian born artist Camilla Sparksss. Electronic, experimental and with dusty loops and haunting vocals.

Friday 8pm, Rote Fabrik, Seestrasse 407, 8038

New kid on the block: No Place Like TomoHome

As most of you Ronsters know, finding an apartment in Zurich can be a bit of an ordeal, especially if you only need to rent for a shorter period. TomoDomo, situated in the X-Tra, provides a solution with co-living apartments and suites with shared spaces and events such as dinners, hiking and jogging. So…somewhere to live where you can meet like minded people, eat together and generally have fun. When do i move in?

Shopping tip: Hens With Benefits

Q: «How do you want your eggs in the morning?»
A: «Unfertilised.»

I once saw this on an advert for contraceptives but if you are a fan of the sort of eggs you can eat then «Mein Huhn, Mein Ei» have come up with a great solution which looks after then hens and provides you with a great organic product. Simply put, you sponsor a hen for 24 months and every couple of weeks you receive either 6 or 10 eggs. After the 24 month expire your favourite hen is allowed to retire and live out its days on the farm. Egg-cellent!

Good to know: May Day & The Force

A cursory glance at your calendar will reveal that we head into the month of May on Saturday and, as usual in Switzerland, May the first is celebrated as International Workers Day. Normally 1mai.ch organise protests and the Volksfest that last took place in 2019 but, in these febrile times, i am sure there will be protests against the evil capitalist empires which can turn a bit nasty. Take care out in the city on Saturday, especially if you are around Helvetiaplatz.

Speaking of evil empires, Tuesday is also Star Wars Day, (May the 4th be with you. Geddit?) It gives me a perfect excuse to don my Stormtrooper uniform and binge watch all the films, even the ones with Jar Jar Binks. Live long and prosper…sorry….i mean, may the Force be with you.
