Eating: Sihlcity's Got Seoul

If you are a fan of Asian food then haul yourself down to Sihlcity this Thursday. Yes, it’s the Korean Street Food Festival and, if you have visited the street food festival at Hardturm, you will know that the Korean contingent of Zurich have a great deal to offer. But so do we. We are giving away 2 x 2 vouchers for the meal of your choice. 맛있게드세요 (that means bon appetite.)

Concert: Seebad Seegood

Seebad Utoquai is a beautiful location at the best of times and this week they are holding a rare live music event. Phil Hayes and The Trees will entertain you with Martin Prader on bass and Sarah Palin, presumably taking time out from her work with the Tea Party, hitting the drums. (Okay, that was a joke. Sorry Sarah.) Have a drink and enjoy the view across the lake and the sun setting behind the Uetliberg.

Friday 8:30pm, Seebad Utoquai, Utoquai 50, 8008

Shopping tip: Sell Up In A Brewery

Brauerei Steinfels is closing but don’t break out the black arm bands and prozac just yet, they’re not closing for long. They want to rebuild and generally improve it for you. With that in mind they are selling off some of their inventory, including furniture and other small items. And of course they are selling beer and food.

Sat 4pm, Sun 11am, Brauerei Steinfels, Heinrichstrasse 267, 8005

As it’s been a week since Zuri Fäscht the Letten is now a safe place to go swimming and with the perfect timing, for which the Swiss are justly famous, there is a festival at the venues in the. Lettenfest will deliver live music, DJ’s, grilled food and drinks at the Primitivo, Dynamo and all the venues along that stretch of the river. Don’t forget your swimwear.

Theatre 11 are hosting Motown legend Gladys Knight and i am really excited to be going to this show. Her career speaks for itself: Seven Grammys and Six Billboard number one albums. But music industry friends of mine that saw her at the Love Supreme festival in the UK described her performance as «a two hour masterclass in vocal performance which mesmerised and captured the hearts of the huge crowd.» And, i have two sets of tickets to give away. See you there.

Cinema: How High The Moon

«That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.»

On Tuesday it will be fifty years since Neil Armstrong uttered these immortal words and in celebration Kosmos are hosting a series of talks, films and events to mark the occasion. You’d have to be a lunatic not to attend.

Tuesday - Sunday, Kosmos, Lagerstrasse 104, 8004

Good to know: Active Scooter

One of my favourite things about Zurich is the ease in which you can get about, by bike, public transport or on foot. But there is a new game in town in terms of transportation. I’m talking of course about the, now ubiquitous, rental e-scooters.

There are three main players in the market at the moment, Circ, Bird and Tier. I put them through their paces to see which is the cuter scooter for your average commuter.

Good to know: Zurich Deserted

Schools out! Friday sees the start of Zurich’s school holidays and whilst weary teachers lunge for the vodka bottle and thousands of filthy urchins flood from the classrooms and into the streets, a strange change takes over the city.
