Good Morning Ronster

It’s an exciting week ahead, especially for the gourmets amongst you as it's the start of the Food Zurich festival. But this week isn’t just about food. There are some great gigs in town and i’ve managed to get a few free tickets for two lucky Ronsters. Have a great weekend and don’t forget…

Give my love to the city

Concert: It's Getting Lauter

If you want to check out some live music this weekend but the budget is a bit tight, Gessnerallee are hosting the Lauter festival. Great artists in great venues and best of all, it’s free. Gigs will take place in Stall 6, Nordflügel and El Lokal right the way across the weekend.

Concert: Beats Meet Beethoven

Classical and electronic music may appear to be strange bedfellows but melding the two genres together definitely works as Friday sees the 34th edition of TonhalleLATE. This event, which usually takes place two or three times a season will feature honorary conductor of the Tonhalle, David Zinman and Dutch DJ and producer, Tom Trago. Don’t miss it as it’s the last one of the 2018/2019 season…

Opening: My Type Of Night

If your weekly screen time is measured in days rather than hours then maybe the printed word is the way forward. Print Matters , a shop dedicated to the printed word (and I guess pictures as well,) is moving into a new location near the Langstrasse. As it’s their first day in their new home they are throwing a house warming party so head down, check out the magazines and enjoy a nice cold beer.

Saturday 4pm, Print Matters, Hohlstrasse 9, 8004

Exhibition: Kreis-is? What Kreis-is?

Switzerland is well know for design and the Kreislauf 345 invites you to wander around the studios, workspaces and shops of Kreis three, four and five and check out all the innovative and exciting work that designers, artists and chefs are doing there. Hit the link for the map which shows all the locations in the city and has a clever filter so you can find the events that are for you.

Concert: Benjamin Clementine

This Sunday Benjamin Clementine is gracing the stage at the Kaufleuten with his soulful voice and hypnotic piano playing. Not only has Benjamin won the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK but has made appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Later With Jools Holland and his blend of poetry and unconventional songwriting have won him critical acclaim. This Sunday he will be performing songs from his second album, «Tell a Fly,» with string quintet and for two lucky Ronsters i have two sets of two tickets to give away.

Where There's A Grill, There's A Way

For ex-pats and «auslanders», eating out in Zürich is frighteningly expensive. Cries of «How Much?» are regularly heard emanating from the mouths of Brits, Americans and our Antipodean cousins. So save your self a few Francs, buy a Wurst from the supermarket and head to the Sendergarten. They are hosting a public grill so you can bring your own sausage, kebabs or whatever you fancy grilling and they have a great line up of DJ’s.

Good to know: Will Winter Ever End?

The weather in the past few days has been shocking. Cold, windy with occasional snow but there is one crumb of comfort in all this. You can still go skiing or snowboarding. For those of you that are totally addicted to white powder there is still plenty going on up in Engleberg and (especially if you have a car,) it is relatively quick to get up to the slopes. I had a quick check and there is a muscular 6.5 meters of snow at the top and the lifts will be running until the 26th of May. Have fun in the snow.

Good to know: Pensions, Guns & Taxes

Cheese, Chocolate and Referenda. It’s all so quintessentially Swiss. This weekend sees two votes that will decide the future of taxation and pensions and the relationship of the Swiss people to guns. So what’s it all about? Hit the button to find out.
