So far I found two art blogs in English about Zurich:

Elena Habicher is a visual rtist. She is not from Switzerland but lives in Switzerland. Her blog ElH-Reports focuses on contemporary art in Zurich. www.el-h.org

Olga Stefan's blog features reviews, interviews and impressions of art shows in Zurich. Additionaly she organises guided tours focusing mostly on art and architecture. http://olgaistefan.wordpress.com/

Classical clash

Classical clash

If you think of a live performance of classical music, I’m sure certain images come to mind – perhaps violinists in tuxedo’s, cellists in evening gowns, plush red theatre seats, the respectful murmur of an expectant...

New talent: Restorm.com is a platform that supports new bands. They found 120 bands to compete for the two concert slots at Hive this Thursday. A jury chose five finalists and fans voted for their favourite two: K-Rings Brothers (soul, punk and reggae) from Germany and Vela (indie rock pop) from Zurich. Decide for yourself if they’re worthy winners.
Thursday 9 pm, Hive

Good vs bad: Starring Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes, The Spirit tells the story of a dead cop who returns as a spirit to fight crime. Adapted from the legendary comic strip, it's a classic action-adventure-romance from genre-twister Frank Miller (Sin City). I have 5 pairs of tickets for the opening night to give away.
From Thursday, various cinemas

Hollywood: Is Hollywood a dream-factory or a dream-destruction machine? Hollywood Angst, a work inspired by David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, embraces choreography, music and theatre at Tanzhaus. I have five pairs of tickets to give away.
Sat 8 pm & Sun 6 pm, Tanzhaus

It’s Super Bowl time: The restaurants Iroquois and Cheyenne will take care of all American football fans. Watch the Super Bowl on a large screen and fight your night-time hunger with burgers, hot dogs and other snacks. I’m supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers, with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, over the Arizona Cardinals who have no known Swiss connections.
Sunday 11:30 pm, Iroquois & Cheyenne

Going once, going twice, gone: The gallery mehrzweck-halle is a large showcase on the facade of Hotel Seefeld, where various art works are displayed. Every day throughout Advent, a different artist’s creation was featured. Now those 24 pieces will be auctioned to the public at Cabaret Voltaire this Sunday. Entry is free and the images (with their starting prices) can be previewed on the gallery's homepage.
Sunday 2 pm, Cabaret Voltaire

Revolutionary sound: Captain Ludd play beautiful music on nearly all acoustic instruments, this Tuesday at La Catrina. What do they play? In their words: more texmex than calexico, more folk than Bon Iver. Btw: Captain Ludd was the imaginary leader of the Luddites, a social movement of British textile artisans in the 19th century who protested against the changes caused by the Industrial Revolution.
Tuesday 8 pm, La Catrina

World Economic Forum: From 28 January to 1 February the World Economic Forum 2009 takes place in Davos under the motto Shaping the Post-Crisis World. I'm aware that Davos is not Zurich but this event generally has an influence on Zurich too, as 2,000 leading international personalities from economics, politics, culture, religion and science are expected. Swiss TV shows all the speeches live, along with additional interviews, on SF Info. The programme is aired in the original language with a German translation. Meanwhile, The Public Eye Awards, presented this year by our favourite Swiss Bond villain character, Anatole Taubmann, provide a critical counterpoint to the forum. The worst companies of the year, as selected by public vote online, receive shaming awards while the best initiative is honoured with the Public Eye Positive Award. This year's poll is already closed, but may be something worth keeping in mind for next year.

City list: Zeitgeist ranking, published by Hub Culture, is the annual list of the 20 most important cities in the world. The ranking is compiled on the basis of members’ ongoing discussions about what's important, what's going to happen, etc. Washington is the new No 1. No surprise there. Everybody’s looking at the city where important decisions should be made and impulses followed - for a pretty new world.

Opening: After four months of refurbishment Helvetia re-opened its doors as a new boutique hotel with restaurant and bar. The chef, Françoise Wicki, earned 16 Gault Millau points in her last job, so you know that she knows her cooking. On the menu you’ll find traditional dishes from different regions in Switzerland, but expect them to cost a bit more than in your local next door.
