The Proposal is an art space in a quite courtyard of Kreis 3 that will be showing 6 different prototypes that the artists hope will be made into fully realized pieces of art. If this wasn’t enough to excite you, the gallery also doubles as a fantastic B&B. You have the chance to sleep in the gallery itself or in a 1977 Peugeot J7 bus outside. A bagel breakfast and use of the gallery bikes are also included. If you have anyone visiting Zurich or you just fancy a change from your own bedroom walls, this may be just what you’re looking for. Proposal No. 3 - The Human Print has its opening, with dj set, tonight. Thursday 6 pm, The Proposal, Dubstrasse 33a, 8003
Signori Misteriosi is the new moniker under which four Zurich guys, all with long and winding musical pasts, have come together to record. They claim Ennio Morricone and Them Crocked Vultures as seemingly mismatched inspirations, but having seen them perform last year, there may be something to that. They play live, and show the video premier of their new single, Duty of Loyalty, at Papiersaal this Friday. This is a double bill, with Jesh in the co-starring role. Friday 9.30 pm, Papiersaal
Skream and schout
Oliver Jones, aka Skream, is one of UK dubstep’s original and leading lights. Having been born in Croydon, ground zero for dubstep, his pedigree is clear. He’s also proven himself to have crossover appeal with the slow burning remix of La Roux’s ‘In for the Kill’ and his own top 10 single. He comes to BLOK this Friday, accompanied by his faithful sidekick Sgt Pokes. In support are the KillOut AllStars and Dubsludge Collective. Friday 11 pm, BLOK Club
Bring the noise
As the cities of England burned last year and the wordless youth took out their frustrations on the consumer treats dangled, carrot-like, just in front of them, it seemed as if the time was ripe for a voice to rise above the clatter and move beyond the apocalyptic headlines. I don’t know if Scroobius Pip is that voice but he should be. More poet than rapper, he has anger and eloquence in equal measure and coming from the UK, has that underlying humour to his rhymes that tickle your ears. He plays Rote Fabrik on Saturday. Saturday 9 pm, Rote Fabrik
Mini metal, big noise
The ewz.stattkino season continues this Saturday with a performance of Never Hang Around by Minimetal. This is an avant-garde performance combining cinema, performance art and hard rock music. It is a version of the famous Swiss Alps legend, where the creators of Sennentuntschi, an artificial female sex object made-out-of-straw, become the targets of her revenge. As you can tell this isn’t The Sound of Music! I have 3 x 2 tickets to give away. E-mail me. Saturday 8 pm, ewz stattkino, Selnaustrasse 25, 8001
What if you were the parent of twin daughters and it was within your power to save one of their lives, but not both? This is the premise for Helen Fitzgerald’s new book, The Donor. Although this may not sound like the most joyous of plots, Fitzgerald’s books are often filled with dark humour and unexpected hilarity, none more so than this one. She is at Kaufleuten on Wednesday to give a reading and answer questions, and I have 2 x 2 tickets to give away. E-mail me. Wednesday 7 pm, Kaufleuten
Zurich has the highest club density in Europe, which is great for the nights and weekends but also means there is a lot of space underutilized during weekdays. With this thought in mind, the Milchbar was created. Setting up a mobile kitchen they conjure up simple, well-cooked menus daily. For only 10 francs you can choose either a meat or vegetarian menu, plus a salad and lemon water to drink. They also let you bring your own drinks. I've tried it: My wallet, my taste buds and I are very satisfied! Monday to Friday 11:30 to 13:30 Milchbar (Abart), Manessestrasse 170, 8045
Two Tampa Bay students mounted a handmade swing in the middle of their city. The reaction of passers-by was surprisingly great: first they stood talking, then they started to play and push one another and total strangers become temporary playmates. This simple idea was recognized as such a success that they the city council immediately set-up many more swings around the city. Conclusion: The simplest ideas often provide the strongest message. The day on which the line between science fiction and reality disappears no longer seems to be far away. This brave new world is especially being driven by the Microsoft Kinect technology. In the video Kinect Effect, Microsoft shows us in the real world what, even only 10 years ago, would have been fantasy for the movies. Lo and behold!

Hello, out there.
I'm coming from Arizona with my boyfriend to work for the Schauspielhaus, at Schiffbau and Pfauen. We will be employed as musicians there from April 1-May 29 but are hoping to spend some of the beautiful summer there, if possible.
We are 25 and 33, dealing with a last minute...

Ocean Film Tour drops anchor at Volkshaus Zurich. For two hours you’ll be transformed into a world, where people make their dreams come true, such as youngster Laura Dekker who sails around the world alone. Or Ray, who still dives at the age of 75. The movie is a compilation of eight films and the passion of the protagonists is intoxicating. It’s the only show in Switzerland this year. You can also buy the dvd, but I suggest, don’t miss it.
Thursday 8 pm, Volkshaus
Invitation to Europe’s largest waterfall
The Rhine Falls is one of the top sights among Switzerland’s magnificent natural wonders. From a height of 23 metres, the powerful mass of water plunges down the imposing rocks into the depths below. A visit is worth in every season and offers a unique experience for everyone.
Redeemable at boat trips, Adventure Park, Shops and Restaurants at the Rhine Falls.
According to popular urban myth, if you listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at the same time as watching The Wizard of Oz, the two synch up perfectly and you can enjoy having your mind blown as Dorothy realises she's not in Kansas anymore.
Theater Rigiblick have taken this idea and made a truly synchronised event. They have adapted the music of Dark Side of the Moon to piano and string quartet and are merging it with a reading of a great Ray Bradbury short story, Kaleidoscope. This is one of the greatest science fiction authors and one of the greatest albums of the 20th century in perfect, blissed-out harmony with you along for the space ride. Friday 8 pm, Theater Rigiblick
Party: Second hand party
Arche Brockenhaus has more than just second-hand gear loitering in its warehouse this Saturday. Firstly, they have the
Second Life Flea Market, which exists for the motto - one person’s junk, is another person’s treasure. If you get a little restless of bargain hunting you could always join the ping-pong competition they’re holding or chill out at the bar. Later in the evening, and after their long winter sleep, the party label
Do What Ya Like! will be setting free their djs to keep the after-party jumping. Saturday 5 pm, Flea Market & Ping-Pong, 10 pm, After-Party, Arche Brockenhaus
Concert: Duck dynasty
Ugly Duckling is a hip-hop group that come from Long Beach, California and they let that mellow West Coast sunshine ooze into their music. Layering old school samples, scratches and even samba beats, under a lyrical dexterity that echoes the Beastie Boys at their intelligent and hilarious best, these three guys are all about the pranksta, rather than the gangsta, rap. They’re playing live at
Stall 6 on Sunday and I have 2 x 2 tickets to give away. E-mail me. Sunday 8 pm, Stall 6
Concert: Retro metro
Metronomy are a slightly quirky four piece from Brighton, England who mix their electro-pop sound with real charm and danceable vibes. Their last album, The English Riviera, was full of melancholy dance tunes that seemed to feel like the sunrise of an early morning walk home after the party has ended. They’ve just released their newest album, Love Letters, which adds classic 60’s song writing to the electro mix and they’ll be playing at

Concert: Reel music
In a kind of technological time loop, the
Open Reel Ensemble from Japan, take old analogue reel-to-reel tape machines and use them, along with the latest digital technology, to mix and create complex and pulsating soundscapes both from pre-recorded sound but also live noises captured from the crowd or room. To listen to these five guys standing in front of their machines, mixing and looping the magnetic tape as one entity, is to hear both the future and past of music in perfect symmetry. They play at
Kunstraum Walcheturm on Wednesday. Wednesday 8 pm, Kunstraum Walcheturm
In the menu, a finch (German: der Fink) is sitting either on a corkscrew (representing drinks) or on a sausage (representing food). So I played a bit of «find the finch» while waiting for my food. Once it arrived I didn’t need any other distraction. The
Restaurant zum Fink opened its doors a short while back at Josefstrasse and comes with a small but tasty selection of dishes and friendly staff. What more do you need? Restaurant zum Fink, Josefstrasse 146, 8005. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 9 am to 10 pm. Friday & Saturday 9 am to midnight and Sunday 9 am to 5 pm
Shopping tip: Sneaky sneakers
Sneakerness resides at Maag Halle. A heaven for everyone who likes their sneakers. More or less every brand you can think of will be there, showing off with their trendiest and rarest collections and maybe convincing you to get a pair. Or two. The
opening party takes place on Friday (entry: 30 francs), Saturday and Sunday (one day: 10 francs, two days: 15 francs) are then reserved for some serious browsing and shopping. Friday 11 pm, opening party at Härterei Saturday 12 -6 pm & Sunday 12-5 pm, fair at Maag Halle
Good to know: Markets
The weekend is perfect to stroll through a market, either to buy some vegetables at Helvetiaplatz or in Oerlikon, to pick up some flowers like at Bürkliplatz or to browse through goods at Kanzlei. These are the usual suspects, but I take pride in sharing the rather unknown.
Predigerplatz: In the old town you find a small but fine flea market filled with character and charm, stalls run by kids, pros and freaks and a proper Swiss «Ghackets mit Hörnli» on offer in the Predigerkirche. Always in Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. First Hand vs Second Hand: On the court between Josefstrasse 142 and 144,
five labels sell their goods in company of good food, good drinks and good music. The selection ranges fashion to furniture and design and from first hand pieces to second hand objects. It takes place this Saturday from 12-5 pm.
Web tip: Understanding rap
Rap lyrics are sometimes hard to get. Or do you know what Fancy means when saying: « I just knew that she was fine like a ticket on the dash»? The website Understand Rap translates the verses into standard English, with some light bulb moments and comic results.
