The Proposal is an art space in a quite courtyard of Kreis 3 that will be showing 6 different prototypes that the artists hope will be made into fully realized pieces of art. If this wasn’t enough to excite you, the gallery also doubles as a fantastic B&B. You have the chance to sleep in the gallery itself or in a 1977 Peugeot J7 bus outside. A bagel breakfast and use of the gallery bikes are also included. If you have anyone visiting Zurich or you just fancy a change from your own bedroom walls, this may be just what you’re looking for. Signori Misteriosi is the new moniker under which four Zurich guys, all with long and winding musical pasts, have come together to record. They claim Ennio Morricone and Them Crocked Vultures as seemingly mismatched inspirations, but having seen them perform last year, there may be something to that. They play live, and show the video premier of their new single, Duty of Loyalty, at Papiersaal this Friday. This is a double bill, with Jesh in the co-starring role.

Oliver Jones, aka Skream, is one of UK dubstep’s original and leading lights. Having been born in Croydon, ground zero for dubstep, his pedigree is clear. He’s also proven himself to have crossover appeal with the slow burning remix of La Roux’s ‘In for the Kill’ and his own top 10 single.  He comes to BLOK this Friday, accompanied by his faithful sidekick Sgt Pokes. In support are the KillOut AllStars and Dubsludge Collective.

As the cities of England burned last year and the wordless youth took out their frustrations on the consumer treats dangled, carrot-like, just in front of them, it seemed as if the time was ripe for a voice to rise above the clatter and move beyond the apocalyptic headlines. I don’t know if Scroobius Pip is that voice but he should be. More poet than rapper, he has anger and eloquence in equal measure and coming from the UK, has that underlying humour to his rhymes that tickle your ears. He plays Rote Fabrik on Saturday.

The ewz.stattkino season continues this Saturday with a performance of Never Hang Around by Minimetal.  This is an avant-garde performance combining cinema, performance art and hard rock music. It is a version of the famous Swiss Alps legend, where the creators of Sennentuntschi, an artificial female sex object made-out-of-straw, become the targets of her revenge. What if you were the parent of twin daughters and it was within your power to save one of their lives, but not both? This is the premise for Helen Fitzgerald’s new book, The Donor. Although this may not sound like the most joyous of plots, Fitzgerald’s books are often filled with dark humour and unexpected hilarity, none more so than this one. Zurich has the highest club density in Europe, which is great for the nights and weekends but also means there is a lot of space underutilized during weekdays. With this thought in mind, the Milchbar was created. Setting up a mobile kitchen they conjure up simple, well-cooked menus daily. For only 10 francs you can choose either a meat or vegetarian menu, plus a salad and lemon water to drink. They also let you bring your own drinks. I've tried it: My wallet, my taste buds and I are very satisfied!

Two Tampa Bay students mounted a handmade swing in the middle of their city. The reaction of passers-by was surprisingly great: first they stood talking, then they started to play and push one another and total strangers become temporary playmates. This simple idea was recognized as such a success that they the city council immediately set-up many more swings around the city. Conclusion: The simplest ideas often provide the strongest message. The day on which the line between science fiction and reality disappears no longer seems to be far away. This brave new world is especially being driven by the Microsoft Kinect technology. In the video Kinect Effect, Microsoft shows us in the real world what, even only 10 years ago, would have been fantasy for the movies. Lo and behold!
