Stylish films deserve stylish settings, so where better to show Charlotte Rampling in all her glory than in the Bethnal Green Town Hall Hotel. Brought to us by Test Presents... as part of a series of monthly fashion film screenings, this week “The Night Porter” will be introduced by designer Roksanda Ilincic, and followed by a Q&A. This dark classic tells the story of a concentration camp survivor who discovers her former captor working as a night porter in a hotel, and rekindles their sadomasochistic relationship. Tickets £5 Tuesday 7.30pm, Town Hall Hotel, Bethnal Green, E2
Nothing says Christmas quite like transvestite lipsinkers. Wait, what do you mean, not really? Because this so should be part of your Christmas tradition. The Lipsinkers are the resident comedy dance troupe at Bistrotheque, who, as the name suggests, lip sync classics. During December they are performing their 6th annual Christmas show and if previous years are anything to go by, it will be a scream. Wednesday 9pm, Bistrotheque, Bethnal Green, E2
Museum of Obsolete Objects
As the digital tsunami continues to drown all analogue equipment in its wave of ones and zeros, the Museum of Obsolete Objects has opened its doors online. Like beachcombers sifting through the wreckage, they have found the most important objects of our recent past and given them a home. In their own quirky way they’ll tell you about such ancient artefacts as the tape cassette and fax machine. They even predict the computer mouse becoming obsolete by 2015.
