The Seagull
Here's another unmissable production at the Arcola Theatre - Chekhov's The Seagull. A new translation directed by Joseph Blatchley, coupled with an incredibly strong cast (including Geraldine James) brings warmth to a tale of tormented characters and complex relationships. Until 16th July, tickets £17.
7.30pm, Arcola Theatre, Dalston E8
Brazilian Rhythms
Two days ago was the official start of the summer, well at least officially. I'm not quite convinced yet, but the lovely people from Passing Clouds are helping out with their hot Brazilian night. Go here if you fancy an evening of hip-swaying salsa, bossa nova and samba and listen to the tunes of Pe-de-Jurema and Criolina Sound System. £5
7pm, Passing Clouds, Hackney E8
Tsunami All-Dayer
Here's an idea: ask your boss if you can have this afternoon off and tell him you're going to represent your company at a fundraising event. I'm sure he won't be able to say no. Then head to the Macbeth for Tropical Voodoo, a Japan Tsunami all-dayer with live bands, visuals, snacks and booze. Just try to hide your hangover the next day! £5
2pm-2am, Macbeth, Hoxton St, N1
Club Tropicana
Whilst some folk pack their tents for a sodden wet weekend at Glastonbury, other folk are gearing up for more summer climes at a super-hot tropical rave party at Rich Mix championing the best of new global music, from Latin America to the Caribbean through bass, booty music and funk, with a live set from Bacalao Men and DJ set from Russ Jones. I know where I’d rather be! £5 adv / £7 door
7pm, Rich Mix Bar, Bethnal Green Rd , E1
One Tweet Pete
If the internet has officially become the Land of the Oversharer, what would someone say if they could only tell the virtual world one thing? There are feeds and then there are bites and One Tweet Pete has certainly served up his share. We could go on and on about Pete and what his social media outfit says about the state of our world, social commentary, irony and all that, but that would only be giving more credence to his experiment.
Hungover Cooking
I'm not too sure whether I like the idea of a hungover cookbook - isn't it much easier to cure a hangover at the local café? On the other hand, if you can manage to force your flatmate/girlfriend to cook breakfast for you, this book might actually be a great idea. Well, check it out yourself: The Hungover Cookbook.
