The Real Rio

The Hoxton-based Signal Gallery is currently exhibiting the solo show of artist Jonathan Darby, which focuses on the plight of young street children living in the favelas (slums) in large Brazilian cities. Darby aims to highlight the fact that these children face daily dangers and extreme poverty living in the violent, lawless favelas. The exhibition features both paintings and installations, and is seen as the young artist's most ambitious collection to date. Until 2nd April.

12-6pm, Signal Gallery, Hoxton EC2A

Animal Metropolis

What do you get when you place a full 32 acres of countryside in the middle of the Isle of Dogs? A bleedin’great farm that’s what. Alongside the standard chickens, goats, cows and sheep at Mudchute Park and Farm, expect a lovely café and, what for it, lamas! Those sky scrapers really don’t know what’s hit them. Free

Mudchute Park and Farm, Pier Street Isle of Dogs, E14

Immersive Reading Room

Starting from today, London’s Old Spitalfields Market is playing host to the, by their own admission world’s first, immersive reading venue. The event is marking the paperback release of author David Mitchell’s The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. The Japanese teahouse-inspired 'Reading Room' wants readers to become absorbed by the novel within an environment that has literally been built around it. Visitors will also be served traditional Japanese green tea. Until Saturday. Facebook event page
9.30am-7pm, Old Spitalfields Market, EC1

The Real Black Swan

If you enjoyed Black Swan, you might be interested in BBC's new documentary called 'Agony & Ectasy', where you can experience a year in the life of the English National Ballet. This first episode is about their own Swan Lake production. From injuries to the recent funding cuts, this is a great chance to have a look behind the scenes of this London institution.
