Trial And Error

With LCD soundsystem basically retired I’m always on the look out for an heir to their crown. So it is pretty exciting to get an up close look at a good potential, when Errors play at XOYO tonight. The Glaswegian electro pop outfit play their first gig in London for what feels like ages, ably supported by fellow Scots the Twilight Sad. Should be a cool night in an interesting venue.
8PM, XOYO, EC2A

Carl Barat

After releasing two albums with The Libertines and two with Dirty Pretty Things, the uber-talented Carl Barat is striking out on his own to release his debut, self-titled album. Catch his melodic, soulful and yet strangely uplifting tunes instore at Rough Trade East tonight. Wristbands for this free gig can be collected instore in advance, when purchasing the album, with remaining ones being distributed one hour prior to the performance.
7pm, Rough Trade East, E1

Good Old Pie And Mash

There are very few places still left in London which resemble F. Cooke, a pre-gentrified, authentic old pie and mash shop serving up, well, hearty pie and mash. With all the original tiled walls, marble topped tables and metal and wooden benches from yesteryear, the old fashioned eatery stands out against the organic goods of Broadway market as a timeless classic.

A Gem In Toronto

If there was a prize to be won for the most beautiful café in the world, Balzac's Coffee in Toronto's Distillery District would clearly be one of my favourites. Located in an antique warehouse, the place reminds of industrial-chic meets French bistro. Beautiful. Check out the equally beautiful photos on their website (choose Gallery -> Distillery District).

A Day In Jason Schwartzman's Life

In just two minutes, this video explains why the New Yorker iPad App is truly useful. Be part of Jason's life for a day, right from waking up, to while he's under the shower till the evening and find out what you can do with an iPad and the New Yorker app. Very funny. Watch
